Therapy for college, graduate students, and student athletes - social justice oriented. Queer and genderqueer affirmative. A a therapist I specialize in working with first generation college students, athletes, acculturation, anxiety, suicidal thoughts, and trauma. College is tough! I specialize in anxiety, imposter anxiety, perfectionism, sleep, and mood. Are you overwhelmed trying to figure out the future while managing life obligations and feel like no one understands you? Together we will figure out unhealthy behaviors and relationships that do not serve you, learn skills to manage stress, and make changes to live a balanced, more meaningful life. I strive Likewise, I strive to provide a safe space to process unique experiences of systemic racism, injustice, and inequity. What will therapy be like? It will be a blend of discussing stress and learning skills. Don't want to talk? That's cool too- let's learn skills. I use both relational and research informed approaches (meaning research studies have found these therapies help people feel better, so they work!) including Cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment therapy (ACT), Exposure and Response Prevention, and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy skills.

Life continually brings new challenges and successes to us: life events and circumstances that can contribute to periods of serious distress – but also potentially meaningful personal growth. This can certainly apply to those who are on a path toward achieving a degree - adjusting to new things: a degree program, city, roommates, & even ways of learning (including online classes & COVID-sensitive campus life). This also can be a time in life when past challenges can crop up again - vestiges of trauma, social anxieties, family of origin issues, etc. In addition to doing traditional talk therapy, I also conduct mind-body skills groups in which we practice in a small group setting a nice overview of techniques that can help you cope with just about anything: meditation, guided imagery, mindfulness, relaxation, etc. I incorporate these into our individual work, too, but I often recommend one of these 6-week groups to lay the foundation. Past clients have described me as someone who really listened and conveyed sincere concern, but who was also not afraid to say what they needed to hear. If you work with me, I will partner with you to identify your strengths and to empower you along the way to greater insight. We will always look for hope and positivity even when they may be hard to find. In addition to traditional talk therapy, I love using non-traditional methods such as listening to music, reading poetry, even being silly when we could use a laugh.

Whether you're feeling inundated by challenging life experiences, navigating life transitions, or struggling with a relationship that's depleting your personal resources, I welcome the opportunity to work with you. You don't have to figure this out on your own. The fundamental value of therapy is being able to speak with an empathic person about what is happening in your life. It is an opportunity to be heard and recognized in the midst of whatever is occurring for you. Believing that within you is the capacity to create contentment and growth, is at the heart of personal change. With empathic support and understanding comes the opportunity to develop insight around your perceptions of yourself and the world. As an Integrative Psychotherapist, I employ a range of approaches based on your personal style and needs. If you're considering therapy but not sure whether it's for you, I invite you to call me for a free consultation. My office is located steps from Dupont Circle Metro. I congratulate your courage to reach out for help and look forward to accompanying you on this journey.

I have a PhD in Counseling Psychology from Boston College and prior to working in private practice, I worked almost exclusively in university counseling centers for several years. The centerpiece of my work is building a therapeutic relationship in which you can explore and better understand yourself without fear of judgment, essentially "rewiring" your brain so that confidence and self-acceptance come to feel more like second nature to you. In the meantime, we can also build skills to better cope with anxiety, depression, and other symptoms. I work with individuals navigating trauma, identity exploration, relationship challenges, and major life transitions through a gender-affirming, trauma-informed, and culturally responsive lens. I am especially mindful of how trauma can impact safety, trust, and the nervous system, and I work at a pace that feels supportive and grounding, whether clients are feeling overwhelmed, disconnected, uncertain, or processing trauma related to identity, relationships, or systemic stress. With experience in queer and gender-affirming care, I take a creative, individualized approach to therapy that honors each client’s lived experience. I especially enjoy supporting LGBTQIA+ and neurodivergent clients, college students, and those exploring identity and belonging. I offer a warm, collaborative space grounded in curiosity and compassion, helping clients build self-trust and resilience at their own pace. It can take a lot of courage to consider reaching out for support, especially if past experiences made it feel unsafe or unhelpful. Therapy does not have to be rushed or forced. If you’re curious about exploring things at a pace that feels respectful and grounding, I welcome you to take that next step when you’re ready.

Do you experience hypervigilance? panic? overwhelm? avoidance? unexplained physical symptoms? Many of my clients didn't realize that their symptoms of anxiety, depression, chronic pain, and relationship struggles stem from trauma. Trauma isn't just something soldiers experience — it encompasses so many different life experiences. I use EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) to get at the root of your symptoms, rather than putting a bandaid on them for a temporary fix. I'm trained in EMDR 2.0 and the Four Blinks Flash technique, and I use advanced EMDR software to work effectively with clients online. I also offer Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP) for clients ready to go deeper when talk therapy has reached its limits, along with Internal Family Systems (IFS) and ADHD-informed therapy. I've worked extensively with people in the LGBTQ+ community. If you're interested in working together, reach out to schedule a free 15-minute consultation — we can decide if we're a good fit. You are making an amazing and brave step in your healing journey!

I have provided individual, group, couples and family therapy in both school settings as well as private practice settings for close to 25 years . I utilize behavioral management tools, cognitive behavioral therapy, and creative therapies to encourage development of self, learn how to celebrate strengths and weaknesses and help clients feel accountable and more importantly, recognize they have the ability to grow. I also have a strong background in parent coaching, fertility counseling with particular focus on single moms by choice and support and aiding clients in working through life transitions. I have been working with children, adolescents , and adults for over 25 years and I have provided supervision to social workers for 10 years. My philosophy for all my clients young or old is that we must feel uncomfortable in order to truly grow. College is an especially special time that can be filled with significant changes and challenges. This can be an important time to recognize you are not an extension of your parents and figure out who you are on your own. I am currently available for supervision to Licensed Social Workers . I also have availabity for individual, couples and family therapy as well as parent coaching.
