Do you struggle with getting out of bed, intrusive thoughts, or worries that keep you from being your best self? As a child of immigrants, do you experience anxiety and depression shaped by cultural expectations and family pressures? My ideal client seeks a safe space to explore these challenges. They want to break free from patterns of self-doubt and stress, develop healthier coping skills, and achieve a sense of self-acceptance and clarity in order to thrive, not just survive. Am I American enough? Desi enough? I work with first-generation immigrants, South Asians, Muslims, women, and young adults. I also enjoy supporting those navigating women’s health issues and chronic pain. As a first-generation immigrant, I understand the balance between assimilation and cultural expectations and can help navigate dual identities. If these struggles resonate with you, I’d be honored to partner with you on your journey to healing and growth. Taking the first step toward change is powerful, and I’m proud of you for considering it. I’m here to support you in creating the best version of yourself, and I look forward to being part of your healing process.
Welcome! My approach to therapy starts with believing that change is in our control and, by working from that mentality, we can learn to accept & grow from what we cannot control in order to live our life in an more optimal way. Being in the LGBT community myself, some of my clients value having a therapist that can connect with that experience. In my therapy space, I value authenticity, safety, freedom to choose, connection to others as well as ourselves, & being challenged. My clients want a safe & comfortable space that can help them facilitate growth (that can sometimes be uncomfortable) & I love when I can provide that. I enjoy working with college students who are curious about themselves, desire change, & are interested in exploring issues or past trauma that they feel may be holding them back. I've completed EMDR Basic Training and use this along with other evidence based practices to help my clients reach their goals.

My goal as a counselor is to help others UNLEARN how to be their own worst enemies. Perhaps you're feeling so low or worry so much that it doesn't seem like you are fully living life anymore. Maybe your self-esteem is low, and you've lost sight of what makes you a beautiful being. I aim to meet a client where they are and understand how they view themselves and the world. Then can change begin to occur. I help clients learn to better understand themselves and introduce skills that can help them cope with the uncomfortable thoughts and feelings they experience. I bring fun into the therapy process by incorporating activities, art and the client's creativity in session. Counseling is tailored to fit each client's needs and I welcome input from my clients. I welcome clients of all ages and backgrounds. Please feel free to reach out via phone or email. I look forward to hearing from you and starting this journey with you.
I specialize in sex therapy and relationship counseling for LGBTQ+, gender-expansive, kink-involved, and consensually non-monogamous adults. Many of my clients are navigating desire discrepancies, identity transitions, communication challenges, or persistent shame around sexuality and intimacy. You may feel capable and self-aware in most areas of life yet unsettled in your closest relationships. Together, we will connect the dots between present triggers and earlier relational experiences so recurring patterns can be understood and shifted with intention. Therapy with me is relational, direct, and grounded in an intersectional framework. I integrate sex therapy, narrative approaches, and practical communication tools to help clients identify patterns and take active steps toward change. While we address complex and vulnerable topics, humor and honesty create space for authenticity and connection. It makes sense if you feel overwhelmed, discouraged, or unsure where to begin. Therapy can be a place to explore your identity and relationships without carrying the burden of explanation or self-protection. If you’re ready to engage deeply and take an active role in meaningful change, I invite you to connect.
I believe that mental health is a journey of piecing together multiple working parts, and I hope to be a part of that process with you. About Me I hold a PhD in Social Work and I am also a Licensed Clinical Social Worker serving the states of Georgia and Maryland. I received my PhD from the University of Alabama, my MSW from the University of Georgia, and BA from The University of Alabama. I have multiple years of clinical experience among various populations (children, teens, families, and young adults), various backgrounds, and in numerous settings (residential, inpatient, outpatient, private practice). I primarily work with ages 6-25. I also currently hold an academic appointment as Assistant Professor of Social Work. I am someone with whom people generally feel at ease and comfortable, which is an important part of what makes therapy work. My initial goal within the therapeutic relationship is to provide you with just that: a positive, safe, and comfortable place, where you feel at ease to talk about things that matter to you. Outside of work, I enjoy hanging out with my pets, finding challenging hikes, cooking/baking, going to the beach/finding water, gardening, exploring the city, and spending time with friends and family. I also enjoy picking up new creative projects and DIYs! Who I Help & What I Help With Who I Can Help Children (6-12) Teens (13-17) Emerging & Young Adults (18-29) What I Can Help With Relationship issues or losing a relationship Adjusting to and navigating life transitions Improving unhealthy/disruptive habits and behaviors Feeling sad or depressed Trauma and loss Feeling overwhelmed or anxious Feeling alone or disconnected from others Experiencing stress at work, school, or home Conflict resolution Learning to value and love yourself My Approach Types of Therapies It’s not uncommon for someone to enter therapy a bit nervous and with no clear sense of where to start – they simply want things to change for the better and to feel like themselves again. You are the expert of your own experience, but it’s easy to lose your way and feel lost when in distress. I will meet you wherever you are and help you piece things back to a sense of what normal feels like for you. The best approach is one that works for you, so I may draw on several different approaches to therapy, all of which have been shown by research to help individuals reduce stress, gain clarity, and make changes in their lives. They include but are not limited to: Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) Acceptance and Commitment (ACT) Person-Centered Therapy Narrative Therapy Culturally Sensitive Therapy Services & Payment At this time, all sessions will be remote/virtual video sessions and take place through a fully HIPAA compliant platform called SimplePractice. This is a great option for accessibility and flexibility, but please be sure to first, consider whether this is the most appropriate option for you at this time. How to Get Started *Ready to get started? Just head to the “Contact Me” tab or the “book appointment” link at the bottom of every page of this website. You can schedule your first appointment on your own and whenever you’re ready with no initial contact required. Please note that I am committed to your privacy. Therefore, please do not include confidential or private information if you choose to email or call. Further and more detailed information will be exchanged through a fully HIPAA compliant platform called SimplePractice. I look forward to speaking with you! Types of Sessions Visits with me typically involve the following types of sessions: Intake Session: Assessment & Planning (60 minutes, Accepts Insurance, Private Pay Rate: $175) It’s important to feel comfortable with your therapist. For this reason, the first session serves to help you and me decide whether the therapeutic relationship will be the best fit. The intake is also an Assessment and Planning phase, which is focused on learning more in depth about you, your history, and what brings you to therapy. This phase also allows me to begin putting together a plan for future sessions if you are comfortable with moving forward. All follow up sessions after the initial intake session will be considered a regular therapy session. Regular Individual Therapy Session (30-60 minutes, Accepts Insurance, Private Pay Rate: $90-$160) Following the Assessment and Planning phase, we’ll decide when and how often to meet. Session time frames depend on your treatment needs and personal circumstances and are guided by the plan we develop together. Please note that 30-minute sessions are private pay only. These sessions may work well for children and adolescents, day-to-day check-ins, more solution-focused sessions, quicker access to therapy, etc. Regular Family Therapy Session With Client (30 minutes; Child & Adolescent Only, $135, Private Pay Only) When needed, family sessions provide an opportunity to strengthen communication, address relational dynamics, and support your child or adolescent’s progress in treatment. These sessions may include parents/guardians, caregivers, and/or siblings depending on the goals we establish together. Please note that all family sessions of any length are private pay only. Brief Family Therapy Session Without Client (15 minutes; Child & Adolescent Only, $45, Private Pay Only) These brief check-ins offer a dedicated space for parents and caregivers to share observations, ask questions, and stay connected to their child’s therapeutic progress without the client present. They are not a replacement for regular family sessions but rather, serve as a lightweight touchpoint between sessions when needed. Please note that all family sessions of any length are private pay only. Payment Options In-Network Insurance & Third-Party Payers I currently accept the following insurance plans in Georgia: Aetna Cigna/Evernorth United Healthcare/UBH/Optum Medicare & Medicare Advantage Plans I currently accept the following insurance plans in Maryland: Aetna Cigna/Evernorth United Healthcare/UBH/Optum Medicaid/Carelon Behavioral Health Medicare & Medicare Advantage Plans This means that if you are enrolled in any of these plans (or potentially any of their subsidiaries), your out-of-pocket expense is limited to your deductible and copay/coinsurance. While I can assist in determining what these costs will be, it may be helpful to ask your insurance provider the following questions prior to your intake session: 1. What is my deductible and how much is remaining? 2. What percentage of payments for outpatient mental health services does my plan cover after the deductible is met? *I am currently working to become a provider in network with Anthem as well as any applicable subsidiaries under Anthem in the state of Georgia. I am also currently working to become a provider in network with CareFirst as well as any applicable subsidiaries under CareFirst in the state of Maryland. Private Pay & Out-of-Network Reimbursement I also accept private pay, and if you have another insurance provider, you may also have out-of-network benefits. With this option, your insurance benefits may reimburse the majority of the cost of therapy. With both private pay and out-of-network reimbursement, you will be provided with automatic invoices, statements, and superbills for any needed reimbursements later from your insurance provider. I recommend calling your insurance provider to learn more about how reimbursement works. It may be helpful to ask your provider the following questions prior to your intake session: 1. Does my plan provide out-of-network coverage for outpatient mental health services? 2. What is my deductible and how much is remaining? 3. What percentage of payments for outpatient mental health services does my plan cover after the deductible is met? *Lack of insurance coverage, privacy concerns, flexibility, and quicker access to care are only a few of the reasons why one might choose this option. Cancellation Policy All clients are required to have an active credit/debit card on file at the time of scheduling an appointment. For appointment no-shows, last-minute cancellations, or inactive insurance, you will be charged in full regardless of reason. This is necessary, as a time commitment is made and held exclusively for you. You may still apply this fee to future appointments/copays. Contact Me Ready to get started? College can be a fun and exciting chapter of life, but when something goes wrong, it can quickly feel out of control and overwhelming. Many students I work with are high achievers who appear to have it all together, yet privately struggle with anxiety, ADHD, self-doubt, loneliness, or the pressure to constantly perform and succeed, especially leading up to graduation as they prepare for the next chapter. When we live with constant pressures and a lack of self-compassion, we may begin feeling exhausted, disconnected, and unsure of ourselves. As a health psychologist, I enjoy helping college students navigate the academic, social, and personal challenges of this stage of life. Together, we’ll identify what’s getting in the way, build practical skills to manage stress and stay focused, and strengthen your confidence and self-compassion. My goal is always to ensure you feel heard and understood, and to help you create a life that feels balanced, meaningful, and true to who you are. Together, we gain clarity on personal values, goals, and we build strategies to break through barriers and move towards what you truly want in life.
At Stillwell Athens, we offer both individual counseling and an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) to support college students and all young adults who are navigating emotional, relational, or life transitions. We provide different levels of care so clients can access the amount of support they need, whether that’s weekly therapy or more structured, consistent treatment, without stepping away from school, work, or daily responsibilities. Our approach is relational, developmentally informed, and evidence-based. We work with individuals, couples, and families using modalities such as CBT and DBT, alongside experiential and creative approaches when appropriate. We regularly support college students and young adults adjusting to independence, academic or career stress, and relationship challenges, as well as adults and parents managing changing family dynamics, identity shifts, and major life decisions. For those who need more than individual therapy alone, our IOP provides increased structure, group support, and clinical care while remaining fully outpatient. This option is well-suited for clients who are feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or in need of additional accountability and connection. 10-15 hours of therapeutic support per week. At Stillwell, we focus on helping our clients build insight, develop practical skills, and strengthen the supports that allow for meaningful, sustainable change. You don't have to put your life on hold or compromise your mental health and wellbeing.

At Papini Counseling, we believe healing and growth are most powerful when they are supported by compassion, collaboration, and evidence-based care. Our approach is rooted in the belief that each person’s experience is unique, and therefore, therapy should be tailored to fit the individual—not the other way around. We combine clinical expertise with real-world strategies to help clients build insight, strengthen resilience, and create meaningful change. Whether you are navigating anxiety, trauma, life transitions, relationship challenges, or everyday stress, our team works alongside you to identify goals, develop practical skills, and move forward with clarity and confidence. Our clinicians draw from a range of evidence-based modalities, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), EMDR, trauma-informed care, and person-centered approaches. We also incorporate mindfulness, psychoeducation, and strengths-based techniques to support clients in building long-term emotional well-being. In addition to individual therapy, we offer couples and family therapy, group support, coaching services, and professional development for schools and organizations. Whether you are seeking personal growth or system-wide support, our team is dedicated to creating a safe, nonjudgmental space where you feel seen, supported, and empowered to move forward.

Hi, my name is Marlee and I'm a therapist here in Athens with Rooted Therapy + Wellness. If you’re ready to create lasting change, find balance, and feel more at home in your life, I’m here to help. Life can feel overwhelming, but with the right support, you can navigate its challenges with greater clarity, confidence, and peace. My goal is to help you find that grounding and create a space where you can flourish. You have everything you need to thrive, and I’m here to support you along the way with a deep belief in your ability to grow. Therapy is meant to create a space that feels uniquely yours. My approach is warm, collaborative, and down-to-earth. Together, we’ll explore what works for you in order to build on your strengths and help you grow in your own way. Healing can be difficult, but it can also be lighthearted and empowering at times, with laughter along the way as well. I work with adolescents + adults facing a variety of concerns, such as life transitions, anxiety, depression, eating disorders, body image issues, relational concerns, low self-worth, identity exploration, and spirituality exploration. It’s truly an honor to walk alongside my clients as they uncover their strength and move toward the life they want.
Do you find yourself constantly second-guessing what you said, worrying about what others think, or feeling stuck in a cycle of overthinking? Or maybe your childhood seemed normal, yet deep down something still feels off? You might be feeling overwhelmed, stuck in old patterns, or carrying the effects of past experiences that still shape your present. You want to feel safer in your body, more grounded in your emotions, and more connected to yourself and others. I work with adults who are ready for meaningful change and want a therapist who brings warmth, clarity, and evidence-based tools to support deep, sustainable healing. With training in EMDR, CBT, DBT, and Acceptance & Commitment Therapy, I blend evidence-based tools with a deeply client-centered approach. My goal is to help you understand your patterns, regulate your emotions, & reconnect with the strengths you may have lost sight of so you can feel more grounded, empowered, & more like yourself. You might be stuck in patterns that no longer serve you. You might be working really hard to break free from old coping strategies that once helped you survive. Together, we can work to build safety, clarity, and confidence moving forward. I know how hard it is to break out of those patterns.

Greetings! Secular psychotherapist here. Is taking care of everyone but yourself breaking you down? Tired of being called “co-dependent”? Do you have beliefs that are different from others and feel a little “off”? Are you becoming more and more anxious or depressed? You're not alone. I help those looking for a professional confidant and can help with processing difficult transitions and even traumas. Maybe the transition you are going through is attempting to go back to school after a divorce, juggling taking care of aging parents while raising a family of your own, etc. Or perhaps you are having difficulty setting boundaries with a toxic person in your life. Perhaps you are having difficulty with relationships due to a past that seems ever so present. My therapeutic style is empathetic and interpersonal. I use evidence-based talk therapy (Acceptance & Commitment, Narrative, etc.) and mindfulness techniques. I believe in our getting to know one another well over time. I welcome diversity in my practice, including those with other than traditional orientations: religious, sexual, gender, or otherwise. Contact me today to set up an appointment for a free consult at OwnYourMindLLC@protonmail.com or call/ text 470.868.0554. Ask about sliding scale for college students.
I strive to provide a safe space to work through emotions and find effective ways to manage them. I help people process past experiences and current reactions that affect the decisions we make in order to promote healthy change and understanding of ourselves and our patterns. Oftentimes, we are not aware of the underlying things that influence our gut reactions which can create a barrier to us meeting the goals we set for ourselves. Counseling is a way to help you understand yourself better and to break down those barriers that stop you from moving forward. I have a wide range of experience in helping people navigate identity, trauma, anxiety, and ADHD. I like to really meet people where they are at in their therapy goals, get to know where you want to be, and help you develop skills and tools that will help you meet those goals. I am big on self-compassion and building confidence that can create success.
