Everyone can benefit from therapy regardless of how big or small a problem feels: both sprained and broken ankles can benefit from crutches! Whether you have faced a life-altering event, or have worries about the future, I will guide and support you along the journey. Taking the first steps to begin therapy can be intimidating, but is an important move to make to become your best self. My approach balances the emotional processing necessary to generate insights with the practical components of skill building to truly give you all the benefits therapy can provide. I use a flexible integrative model to generate individualized treatment since no two people or problems are the same. I believe therapy is most effective when we collaborate to improve your quality of life. I'm excited to begin the process of achieving your personal goals! Currently supervised by Tara Towler-Cumby, MA, LPC, CPCS.
It can be one of the most difficult steps to make that first phone call for therapy. Typically, we are making that call when life feels the most stressful or when we are feeling at our most vulnerable. I strive to support the courage, strength, and determination involved in seeking support. Described by clients as caring, supportive, and warm, I believe each person possesses innate skills and strengths that can be utilized within therapy. I value strengths-based, person-in-environment, cognitive-behavioral, and motivational therapeutic approaches to support each individual’s intrinsic worth and value. I love working with adults, couples, and families to explore difficulties in coping emotionally, breaking the cycle of addiction or substance use, balancing life stressors, establishing self-esteem, setting healthy boundaries, and maintaining healthy relationships. I strive to help you find your voice, offer new coping skills, and explore presenting concerns within a non-judgmental and warm environment. Think we might be a good fit? Our counseling practice sees life's challenges as opportunities to understand ourselves more fully. Our therapeutic process is collaborative; we will honor your journey with non-judgment, confidentiality, and respect. You have likely found yourself in search of a therapist because something in your life is asking to be explored and shifted. You may be searching for a way to handle life stressors with more mastery, heal from past wounds, create stronger and more fulfilling relationships with yourself and others, or for help dealing with difficult life changes. Sometimes we need some support navigating the rough waters of life. When we are "in the thick of it" we must learn that we are not broken, and therapy is not about "fixing", but rather about developing self-awareness, inner kindness, and more emotional and behavioral options for responding to life's ups and downs. Painful emotions like depression, anxiety, and shame can leave you feeling overwhelmed, stuck, and hopeless. Therapy can help guide you in releasing your pain and so that you can start living with more peace and ease.
My mission is to foster healing, growth, and a strong sense of self in each of my clients. I am dedicated to creating a therapeutic space where clients feel understood, supported, and empowered to thrive. My therapeutic approach is integrative and holistic. I pull techniques from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to help build coping strategies and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) to enhance mindfulness and emotion regulation. And, as a former Registered Behavior Technician, I use Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) to teach behavior modification strategies. I am a music lover, avid reader, and proud member of the Atlanta Jewish community. I am a “lifelong” camper, attending overnight summer camp as both a camper and staff member for over ten years. Before pursuing my Masters in Social Work at UGA, I worked as a fourth grade teaching assistant and a behavioral therapist for children with severe autism.
Providing individual therapy for college students and young adults, I foster a warm, supportive, and collaborative environment, dedicated to creating a safe space where you can explore, grow and heal. Building a positive and trusting relationship between us is fundamental to navigating through challenging issues. I believe in the ability to work through our problems. My approach leverages cognitive behavioral techniques, mindfulness and interpersonal development to empower clients to achieve their goals and navigate through life’s difficulties. I understand how difficult it can be to reach out for the first time. Having the courage to reach out is the first step in the process of empowering yourself to feel better. I hope to hear from you.
Therapy is a journey into yourself. It is choosing to step forward into growth rather than shy back into what is safe and comfortable. When we talk about our feelings, they become less overwhelming, less upsetting, and less scary. This process of self-discovery isn’t easy, but certainly worth it! My approach to counseling is that of being direct, honest, and straightforward. I work hard to balance that with care, compassion, and empathy. I will push you, but not past your limits. At times it may feel as if I am pushing you past your limits but that is because often times we aren’t able to see our true potential.
If you are LGBTQ+, polyamorous, kinky, or exploring your identity, it can be exhausting to live in a world that barely tolerates, much less affirms, every part of you. If you feel like you are drowning under the pressure of today’s demands, how are you supposed to find the energy to work on your goals, learn who you are, or take time to enjoy life? You may currently feel alone, unloved, or like you don’t deserve happiness. You might find yourself numb and in emotional pain, wishing people could see and understand your real self. You’re ready to get help, and you want a therapist that specializes in clients like you. I am a gay, transgender clinician dedicated to providing individual therapy to Georgia’s gender, sexuality, and relationship structure minority communities. I am passionate about my community and filling the gap in mental health care many of us experience. My services are also sex-positive, weight-inclusive, neurodiverse-friendly, and culturally-affirming. I offer both in-person and online sessions for your convenience and accessibility. Clients that work with me appreciate positive, gentle masculinity paired with the occasional dad joke. Check out my website for more information about me, or email me to schedule a free 15 minute consultation.
