Therapists for college students near Indianapolis, IN
Wild Haven Counseling
I'm Chelsea Horn, owner and founder of Wild Haven Counseling. I’ve been practicing as a licensed mental health counselor since 2018. My passion lies in helping adults and college students navigate life transitions, develop strengths, and find meaning and purpose. I’m skilled in treating anxiety, perfectionism, imposter feelings and self-doubt, depression, binge eating, and body image issues. In the therapy room, I combine evidence-based practices with a touch of humor and humanity. I see therapy as a space where the focus is entirely on you, where you can reflect on your experiences, reconnect with yourself, and rediscover what brings you joy and fulfillment. I believe a strong therapeutic relationship is the foundation for real change. My style is collaborative and conversational; I offer input and perspective, but I also recognize that you are the expert on your own life. Together, we’ll identify goals that feel meaningful to you. I often encourage clients to practice new skills outside of sessions, which helps build confidence and momentum in daily life. I also take a holistic approach to mental health, considering how emotional, physical, and spiritual well-being all connect. My philosophy centers on pursuing wholeness over perfection. Growth isn’t about getting everything right, it’s about showing up for yourself, learning along the way, and taking that first step toward change.

Everyone tells you that college is the best time in your life and to enjoy it because it flies by. But what people don’t tell you is all the challenges that it can bring. Maybe it’s the first time you are away from your family and friends from home. It can also bring many challenges with pressure to drink or use drugs, navigating friendships and dating in a more complicated way, and figuring out what you want to do with the rest of your life. You might be in a position where in order to afford school you need to work on top of doing well in all your classes. I know personally how challenging, yet exciting, this time can be, and I am here to tell you that you don’t need to figure it all out on your own or even right now. Are you ready to enjoy your college experience, be fully present in the great moments without feeling stresses weighing you down everyday? It’s time to feel a sense of relief, confidence in who you are, and in your decisions. Together, we can make your life feel lighter and free up space for everything else you have going on! My Approach: I am a strong believer in the power of relationships. Having someone to talk to can increase our sense of happiness and positivity, and most importantly let us know that we are not alone. Life has many ups and downs, but it's what you do with them that matters. I am here to help you transform the tough moments into growth. Therapy with me looks like an open dialogue, where we both respect each other's point of view and collaborate to find solutions that help you overcome what’s been holding you back. We can talk about anything, no matter how hard it is to share. Whether it’s the good things or the bad, I am ready to hold space for even the strongest emotions that come up, because I know we can work through it together. I believe in a holistic approach to therapy that not only looks at your thoughts and feelings, but also how your environment, your cultural experiences, close relationships, and health, affect your mental wellbeing. We’ll use a variety of therapeutic techniques to best fit what you need, because therapy is not a one size fits all approach. We’ll make sure that those techniques are really working for you. It might be practicing mindfulness or trying out different coping skills to help things feel less overwhelming. Our approach will continue to grow as our therapeutic relationship develops. I know that therapy is not always easy, but I am here to support you each step of the way and I will always accept you for how you are in that moment, even the hard ones. A Little About Me: I went into undergrad undecided and had a hard time knowing what I wanted to do. I knew that I wanted to do something to help people and I wanted a career that I would enjoy. I always felt behind in some way because I didn’t know what I wanted to do right away. I have learned that a lot of people have a unique path to get to where they are. I worked as a school social worker for 8 years before private practice and that is when I really knew I loved counseling and wanted to continue on this path. I have lived in the Chicago area for most of my life and love the city! You can find me by the lake or exploring all the city has to offer. My hobbies are all over the place and include a mixture of baking, triathlons, knitting, going on long walks and finding the best matcha. I also love traveling (but hate flying) and have an ever growing list of places I want to visit.

My private practice sees patients of all ages but I specialize in women and most of my current clients are young adults or early teens. Having teenagers of my own, and one college student, gives me a perspective that I feel is helpful not only as a therapist but as a mother. I feel all students need a safe space to share private information that is kept confidential especially since privacy is often difficult in a college setting.

Being human is messy, complex and multi-faceted. While we possess remarkable abilities, we can sometimes encounter obstacles or setbacks for various reasons. Developing a strong therapeutic relationship can be a highly effective step toward healing and growth. Counseling offers support in cultivating healthier relationships with yourself and others. If you are feeling overwhelmed, confused, seeking greater control in your life, aiming for improved emotional stability, or looking to develop a more positive self-view, counseling can be a valuable resource. Reaching out for help demonstrates strength and courage. Please contact me to discuss whether we would be a good fit.

Culture, identity, and expression are essential to happiness. However, for some of us, this is a challenge to embrace. I work collaboratively with my clients to help them embrace their true selves and accept what we cannot change. People frequently limit themselves based on old assumptions & expectations, and it can be freeing to start to untangle this. The emotional pain caused by these issues can often be isolating, and it can be healing to have somebody else there with you to explore and process. My approach to therapy is to use self-understanding and awareness as a mechanism for change. While my style is primarily insight-oriented, I have an eclectic approach incorporating various therapeutic methods such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Person-Centered Therapy. The therapeutic relationship is the foundation of effective therapy. My first session is exploring our fit and discussing realistic expectations and outcomes. Transition. In one word, college comes with a lot of transition, a foot in two different worlds. Sometimes you just need someone to provide support and help you navigate these changes. Sometimes you've struggled with feelings like depression or anxiety for quite some time but maybe haven't had a name for it, thought everyone felt this way, or haven't had the opportunity to address it. Maybe you struggle with negative self-thoughts or have had life experiences that leave you struggling. These are some of the common challenges I've had the honor of addressing in my work with students.

Navigating the college years is amazing and low key terrifying at times. Things happen when we get out on our own. We don't always want to turn to certain people for a variety of reasons - privacy, embarrassment, or maybe feeling like you should know how to handle it and you are realizing you need some guidance. Money issues, social dynamics, romantic interactions, or becoming independent from our family of origin, are all things that can really kick us in the teeth when we strike out on our own. It's normal to become overwhelmed by the emotions and awareness. Issues from our past might catch up to us as well. That's shocking particularly if life is grand otherwise. Therapy can help get a grip on emotions and create a secure foundation to evaluate self worth as well as process complicated scenarios. I hope to hear from you!

I specialize in working with "high achievers." Many of my clients are accomplished problem solvers but they find themselves stuck, frustrated, dissatisfied, distressed, or disconnected and they aren't getting getting where they want to go. I use a relational framework to help them develop a deeper understanding of the issue(s) and work from there to support them as they learn, grow, and discover sustainable and meaningful solutions to the challenges they are facing. This is hard work, but if you are up for the challenge it can also be some of the most meaningful work you'll ever do!

You want people to think you have it all together, but inside you feel paralyzed with anxiety. You never feel good enough, smart enough, productive enough, etc., can't make decisions, relate accomplishments to worthiness and love, struggle with saying “No,” and can’t find the right balance between work/life. You're exhausted and overwhelmed. You might not even remember a time things didn’t feel this way. But one thing is for sure: you’re ready for some relief. You’re ready to quiet your mind. You’re ready to embrace discomfort now so you can feel confident in yourself later. Most of all, you’re ready to take control of your anxiety. Clients come to me looking for a therapist who can relate to them because therapy should be a place where you feel seen and understood. Sessions are about more than just talking; we will explore how stress affects both your mind & body so you can experience peace again. And we always go at your pace, never pushing to a place you don’t feel ready to be. As an experienced anxiety therapist, I believe that you are capable of managing how you respond to stressful situations. You don’t have to continue feeling overwhelmed, and you don’t have to do it alone. Call me today for a free 15-minute consultation. I can’t wait to hear from you.
