Hi. My name is Dr. Elanna Lazaruk and I am a licensed psychologist in California, Massachusetts, and New York. I specialize in working with teens and adolescents with anxiety, depression, trauma/abuse, relationship issues, academic performance, and self esteem issues. I love developing a deep understanding of my clients and improving their insights into themselves as well as focusing on actionable changes to improve their quality of life. Whether you are looking for insight into yourself, learning new skills, and/or making changes to your life, I am looking forward to working with you. I will help you to determine your goals for therapy and will create a unique and personalized treatment plan to achieve those goals. I have had training in a number of different therapeutic approaches, including psychodynamic therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectic behavior therapy, mindfulness, and crisis intervention. Together we will develop a customized plan that works best for you. People who have worked with me have stated that I am exceedingly empathic, understanding, and supportive. I am very active and flexible during sessions and am very skilled at understanding people and their behavior patterns. Past patient testimonials are available on Google and Yelp. I received my Doctorate and Master’s degrees in Clinical Psychology at Yeshiva University’s Ferkauf Graduate School of Psychology and my Bachelor’s degree from Wellesley College. While attending Wellesley College, I worked as a psychology research assistant at both Wellesley and MIT. I completed my clinical training at New York Presbyterian Hospital, Beth Israel Medical Center, JCCA, and SCO Family of Services. Feel free to check out my website at www.lacanadapsychology.com . You can reach out to me by phone at (818) 495-5705 or by email at drlazaruk@lacanadapsychology.com and we can schedule a free phone consultation to make sure I am a good fit for you and answer any questions you may have. I look forward to hearing from you.

Anxiety and depression can make college feel overwhelming—constant worry, overthinking, feeling on edge, sudden waves of panic, or getting stuck in “what if” thoughts and mental loops. For some students, it also shows up as perfectionism, needing things to feel just right, or feeling driven to overanalyze, check, or mentally replay situations. For others, they get stuck and can't make decisions, start tasks, and quickly fall behind. My work with students is practical, goal-focused, and skills-based. Together, we focus on tools you can actually use in daily life—learning how to step out of worry and mental loops, tolerate uncertainty and distress, understand and name emotions, and respond more flexibly when strong, uncomfortable emotions show up. We’ll also look at how your emotions influence your choices, habits, and relationships, and work toward changes that help you move forward. The goal isn’t to eliminate anxiety or other uncomfortable emotions completely, but to help emotions to have less control over your thoughts, decisions, and day-to-day life so you can feel more present and grounded. My focus is on individual therapy for anxiety, social anxiety, panic, OCD, adjustment issues, depression and trauma focused therapy for PTSD.

Therapy is not only for navigating challenging experiences and feelings, but for celebrating growth and change. My clients learn about themselves in meaningful ways depending on what works best for them as we collaborate on their goals. Your plate is more than full. You’re struggling with managing it all at once. Whether college, work, family, a declining family member or your own medical illness, things are hard. Life can feel overwhelming. You’re exhausted. You put other’s needs in front of your own. You keep pushing these feelings down and telling yourself “it’ll be okay” because you can’t take on JUST. ONE. MORE. THING. You may smile and say “I’m good thanks” when asked but know inside you’re not as good as you lead on. You deserve the time to slow down and be heard. It's hard to make the time for therapy, but your inner voice will thank you. You can come as you are without judgement. Cry, laugh, scream- do whatever you need to to let these feelings out so we can work on rebuilding you back up. It may not be easy, but you’ve already proven to yourself how strong you are by even considering asking for help. You are worth it. You deserve this. If any of this feels the least bit familiar, I encourage you to reach out to see if we would be a good fit for therapy together. As a working mom of two toddlers managing life’s craziness, I assure you that I will be authentic in every interaction we have because I get it. Life is hard, but I am here for you. I can’t wait to get started!

I help people understand themselves with profound depth, not just with symptom management. If you're ready to look at patterns, relationships, and what keeps you stuck, this work is for you. Can you dream of a life no longer haunted by your past? Are you feeling limited in your relationships? Contemporary psychoanalysis offers a unique space to understand not only what has happened to you, but how your history continues to shape your inner world, often outside of conscious awareness. I help people understand themselves with profound depth; not just with symptom management. If you're ready to look at patterns, relationships, and what keeps you painfully stuck, this work is for you. Therapy is an emancipatory undertaking: the aim is not to help you become better adjusted to what has constrained you, but to help you become less beholden to it in the long run. I bring warmth, candor, and sustained attention to the room. My specialties include contemporary dream interpretation; dissociation; depression; and trauma, in all its forms.

Clinical Social Work/Therapist
Los Angeles, CA

I specialize in anxiety, depression, body image issues, eating disorders, obsessive compulsive disorder & college adjustment/ academic stress. My therapeutic approach is practical and flexible, grounded in psychodynamic psychotherapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and exposure therapy. I find that people often assume that they “should” know how to approach therapy. In reality, the process may not be quite so simple and may feel confusing. Thus, I frequently have conversations with my clients about how to use sessions and ongoing dialogues about our work together.

Are you self-aware, but still stuck in the same painful patterns? Feeling things intensely and struggling with emotional balance? Can't get your mind to calm down or your thoughts to stop racing? Healing, growth, and inner calm are absolutely possible. With 15 years experience working in social services, first as a health educator and then as a licensed therapist, there's not much I haven't seen or heard before. I use science-backed methods to identify what's blocking progress, and create personalized approaches that address root causes, not just the symptoms. My style is conversational & collaborative. I believe each person is more than a diagnosis & I work with you to identify the unique thought/emotion patterns and nervous system reactions you couldn't spot on your own, and create a personalized treatment approach which ensures therapy actually works.

You’ve been wondering why you do & feel the things you do—why specific behaviors keep repeating, why you feel stuck, no matter how much you try to change. You’ve done the self-help books, the podcasts, maybe a few short-term therapy stints, but you still find yourself repeating the same patterns. I help curious, motivated people ready to go deeper than symptom management. Together, we’ll explore the hidden patterns, emotional blocks, & past experiences that still shape your present. Our work will be thoughtful & challenging in the best way — the kind of therapy that helps you grow in ways you didn’t know were possible. My approach blends Psychodynamic Therapy with elements of CBT, DBT, Black feminist theory, empowerment, and sociopolitical thought. This allows us to work at both a deep, exploratory level and a practical, skill-based level, always tailored to you. Therapy can be challenging at times—it asks you to face yourself honestly—but it can also be profoundly enriching and life-changing. I work best with clients who are ready to commit to weekly, twice-weekly, or thrice-weekly sessions, so we can create the momentum & depth needed for real transformation. If you’re ready to begin that journey, send me an email.

I love clients who are curious about themselves and their relationships and are just looking for a safe place to talk. I bring much the same warmth, humor, and energy to my work that I do to my friendships. I'll remember your birthday and the name of the pet you had growing up, and the fact that you were anxious about that text you got last week. If you're anxious about therapy, or have had a bad experience in the past, that's a great place to start, and if you're ready to dive in, we can do that too.
