Therapists for college students near Ann Arbor, MI
I strive to create a safe environment for clients to present and work through their concerns at their own pace. My therapeutic approach is client-centered which allows for me to help guide clients through any issues they may be experiencing. I have always worked in private practice as an outpatient therapist specializing in anxiety, depression, stress management and mindfulness.
Hello! I am a LCSW in Indiana and New Jersey and a LMSW-C in Michigan. I offer virtual individual therapy sessions to adults in these three states. I specialize in working with clients who are experiencing symptoms such as difficulty regulating emotions, dealing with stress, and unique struggles of individuals within marginalized communities, such as LGBTQIA+ folx. I specialize in trauma and personality disorders. I accept many major insurance plans.
“Anything that’s human is mentionable, and anything that is mentionable can be more manageable. When we can talk about our feelings, they become less overwhelming, less upsetting, and less scary. The people we trust with that important talk can help us know that we are not alone.” -Fred Rogers Our experiences throughout life shape us in many ways. I work with individuals to empower them to better understand themselves, and the ways in which they manage life’s hardships, as stress and trauma are often unavoidable experiences of life. I am a trauma-focused mental health therapist, who believes that everyone has their own unique strengths for surviving and thriving through life’s ups and downs. My approach to therapy is strengths-based and attachment-focused. I value building a therapeutic alliance, and my intention is to have each individual feel heard and supported in our time together. I strive to promote a healing environment using active listening, sensitivity, and non-judgmental compassion for everyone’s unique situation.
I support individuals who find themselves stuck in the space between striving for perfection and just getting by. To the outside, you might look like you're holding it together, but inside something feels off. You find yourself staying busy to distract from your thoughts and emotions. Or on the other end, you numb out, stare at your phone, just sitting on the couch not really paying attention to anything. You are tired of playing out the same patterns. You know you are meant for more than this. Constantly pushing through is exhausting, and breaking that cycle alone can feel overwhelming. When you're ready, reach out, and we can decide how to take those first steps together.

Most of my clients are from BI&POC or LGBTQIA+ communities. I strive to create an unconditionally affirming and accepting therapeutic space where you can feel comfortable to explore whatever you need to in order to heal and find your path to liberation. I work diligently to equalize the power dynamics within the therapeutic relationship, and I strive to act more as a collaborator that works with clients to identify their strengths, values, and beliefs. I utilize a trauma-informed, anti-oppressive/decolonization framework to support clients in their journeys toward growth, authenticity, empowerment, and self-acceptance. I recognize the significant effects that organizational structures and cultural contexts can have on the health and wellbeing of individuals, and also how these structures can negatively impact our perception of ourselves. In addition to my work with general mental health, I am also a sex therapist and sexuality educator. I am LGBTQIA+ affirming and kink/BDSM/poly friendly. Lisa Olivera inspired me when she stated, “Just because no one else can heal or do your inner work, does not mean you can, should, or need to do it alone.” We all heal in different ways, and I value the importance of meeting a client where they are at in their healing journey, remaining patient every step of the way. I believe that everyone should have the opportunity to heal in a safe space, alongside someone who can guide and teach them along the way. As a therapist I am dedicated to creating a safe space for all of my clients, working collaboratively with each individual as they work towards their current goals while ensuring a consistent, non-judgmental environment is maintained. Andrea Durkee is a licensed professional counselor. She really enjoys working with adults, families, and especially children. She has experience in helping individuals with depression, anxiety, grief and loss, divorce, child behavior issues, ADHD, mild autism, separation anxiety, OCD, school issues and social skill issues, among others. Andrea likes to build rapport and trust with each person she sees. She assesses the needs and the unique personality and strengths of each individual. She is able to draw on her years of experience working in community mental health, a family residential program, and as a school counselor. Working in a school gives her insight into how a child’s symptoms can impact their school life and the kinds of interventions that can help. Andrea's approach is client-centered therapy, which can include cognitive behavioral therapy, mindfulness, play therapy, psychoeducation, and others. She also uses art, games, and books with children to provide guided experiential learning. Whatever issue brings a person to counseling, her goal is to provide a caring and helpful experience.

I work best with students who carry a lot internally—people who seem put-together on the outside but feel overwhelmed, anxious, or disconnected underneath. Many of the students I support are high achievers or deep feelers who worry about disappointing others, overthink decisions, or feel pressure to be “the strong one.” They’re often juggling school, relationships, family expectations, cultural or religious pressure, and their own inner world all at the same time. A lot of the students I connect with are navigating big transitions—figuring out who they are, questioning beliefs they grew up with, or trying to become their own person in the midst of complicated family dynamics. Some grew up in high-pressure homes, were the emotional caretaker in their family, or learned to hide their needs. Others are noticing patterns they don’t know how to change, like shutting down, feeling numb, feeling “too much,” or carrying stress in their bodies through tension, trouble sleeping, or difficulty concentrating. Many of my students are the quiet strugglers—the ones who rarely ask for help, apologize for having needs, or carry the emotional load for everyone else. They’re thoughtful, self-aware, and resilient, but exhausted. If you feel stuck between who you’ve been and who you’re becoming, or if you’re looking for a space where you don’t have to hold everything together, you’ll feel understood with me.
Navigating adult living can be challenging on many levels. You want to remain independent, all while noticing no one really prepared you for how isolating and overwhelming that can be. You value depth in relationships and you're thinking long term into your future, but you're not sure what path to walk. I've been providing therapy to teens and adults for 14 years, navigating this life along side you. I utilize discussion on how our thoughts and emotions are interconnected with our life choices and actions, all while encouraging you to tune into what your body is telling you, and directing you back to listening to what is truly best for you.
I have many years of experience working with teenagers. I specifically enjoy working with teens who experience anxiety. As a previous college student, I look forward to providing you with support and tools to get through these difficult times in life!
