When you're struggling with an eating disorder, anxiety, or depression, the idea of opening up and trusting another person can be HARD. I know that you've likely heard so many messages throughout your life about what you should do and who you should be, but I don't think that "shoulds" have a place in therapy. Who do you WANT to be? How do you WANT to feel? That is way more important than any shoulds, and I would be honored to walk alongside you as you start to find answers to these questions over time. Together, we can unravel those expectations - what you've been told it means to be healthy or successful or fill in the blank - and get to the heart of what really matters to you and what you need. Being a human is messy, and as your therapist, I'll be right there in that space with you as a human first, therapist second. Let's explore what it means to be humans in a world that expects perfection (which doesn't exist!) and pushes you to grind until you're too burned out to do the things you actually want to do. Whether you realize it today or not, you deserve peace. I have many tools in my toolbox to support you, but to me the most important thing I can do is to provide you a safe space to explore your experience in its entirety at your own pace - to build a connection that is strong enough for you to know that I won't judge you or make you bad or wrong for how you are feeling or for using certain behaviors to cope. It's what you've known to do up to this point, so let's put our heads together and find the ways that this has made sense so we can look at it from a place of compassion instead of judgment. This is a shame-free space! I hold a special place in my heart for those who are working towards eating disorder recovery who feel like they aren't sick enough because their body size, race, sexuality, or gender identity don't match what they are seeing on social media under the eating disorder hashtags. All identities are welcome here, and no matter what your circumstances, your concerns are valid, you ARE sick enough, and you deserve compassionate, equitable care. If anything I've said here makes you think "I like her vibe," please don't hesitate to reach out. I would love to chat further about what it would look like for us to work together.

A lot of people say they knew at a young age they would be a therapist, but that wasn’t me. I grew up in a military family and thought I would continue that tradition and be a stay-at-home mom. Instead, I found myself in a journalism career and a marriage I didn’t like. Starting over after 30, I chose to return to school and pursue a degree in social work. Since then, I’ve worked with the military, in inpatient facilities, and in outpatient care. I love working with women who find themselves “outside the box” when it comes to societal expectations (child-free/childless, unmarried, or just a-plain-ol’ rebel). I love to focus on resiliency, self-improvement/self-esteem, personal growth, and even a bit of spirituality (if that's your thing). I'm a very laid-back, nontraditional therapist. I believe you are the expert in your own life and, sometimes, we just need some guidance or permission to do the things we know we need to do. I don't assign homework cause, frankly, I wouldn't do it if I were in your shoes, but I will suggest some tasks or actions that may be something to focus on between sessions. I also expect clients to show up with a discussion topic or something to start us off with; again, the time is yours to use as you feel best. I have very eclectic interests. Two things that are very important to me are spirituality and non-traditional relationships. I feel both have their own challenges and prejudices to overcome. I'm always looking for ways to include and incorporate my client's spiritual beliefs (if they choose to share) into sessions and help them build a strong foundation. Nontraditional relationships (including kink dynamics) can be a challenge to bring to therapy as there's often a perceived level of judgment—not here! I celebrate however your relationship looks and work to help you create the most nurturing and healthy relationship however that looks. One of my core values is curiosity, so I love it when I get to learn a little something from my clients. Having grown up in a military family that moved every three years like clockwork, learning about people and cultures has been a huge part of my life. I encourage my clients to practice showing and embodying their authenticity with me so they may go out into the world more confidently. I believe we all have something beautiful to share and learn from each other and I encourage those I work with to explore that on a deeper level.

The individuals I partner with often feel stuck or lost in an area of their life. They seek to better understand themselves, find healing, or achieve personal growth. Many face challenges with low self-worth, relationships, sports-related issues, performance anxiety, managing stress, or varying levels of tech addiction. They aim to break free from feeling stuck, build confidence, and accomplish personal goals. Often, they're aware of changes they need to make and may find it difficult to take those steps on their own—if this sounds like you and you're ready to make a change, let's do this together. My approach to working with people is rooted in attachment theory and client-centered practices. I utilize an integrative approach to help people tap into their inner resilience, face fears, break out of unhealthy patterns, and accomplish personal growth. I'm here to help you break free from whatever may be holding you back. We can create a safe and accepting space together where you will be supported and cared for. Reach out to see if we're a good fit.

Life can be downright hard. Trying to juggle everything life is throwing at you. Perhaps you want more clarity in life or want to find a new direction. You may feel stuck and having a hard time moving forward. It can be exhausting trying to muster up the energy to get out of bed and take care of your responsibilities and yourself. You may have thoughts you are not worthy or have a fractured sense of self. What would it feel like to have the energy and motivation to finally take on the day again, to feel worthy to live the life you want, or to smash those goals you have put off? I created Born to Bend Mental Health & Wellness as a safe, nonjudgmental environment where you feel understood and supported. LBGTQ individuals, persons of color, and many other marginalized by society are welcome in my practice. I use humor when appropriate, and use a holistic, strengths-based approach to foster a warm, safe, and trusting environment. You can expect to learn evidence-based skills to manage symptoms you are experiencing. You will learn tools to navigate uncomfortable emotions, develop strategies for struggles you are facing, and develop a better version of yourself. I look forward to hearing from you. Modalities I include but not limited to DBT, CBT, EMDR, solution focused & family systems

College can feel like constant pressure — perform well, make the right choices, keep it together, don’t fall behind. I work especially well with high-achieving students who look like they have it handled on the outside but feel anxious, overwhelmed, or stuck internally. Whether it’s performance anxiety, burnout, perfectionism, relationship stress, or just feeling like you’re never doing “enough,” we’ll work together in a structured, practical way. I use evidence-based tools (primarily CBT) to help you understand how your thoughts, emotions, and habits are connected — and to build skills you can actually use between sessions. My goal is to create a supportive space where you can be real, feel understood, and leave with strategies that help you move forward with more confidence and clarity. I offer virtual therapy and accept multiple major insurance plans. Book directly through my scheduling link at the bottom of this page to verify insurance and availability.
