Therapists for college students near Durham, NC
Welcome! I'm Shannon. I'm glad you're here, and acknowledge that connecting with a therapist is no easy step. Thank you for having the courage to contemplate connecting. For me, who you are - right now, in this moment - matters, is important, and is enough. Your voice matters; your story is important and set-apart; I wholeheartedly believe you are doing the best you can with what you have; and, I know you want to be the best possible version of You. I also know that change is hard. Taking steps towards one's best self often means looking into the corners of our lives; saying things aloud we've spent years only saying to ourselves; and, being willing to adjust our story from one filled with "if onlys" and "should'ves", to one of acceptance for our enough-ness then, and now. Change - it's not easy and can be uncomfortable, so it's my job to deeply listen; to affirm your experience; and, to create a space filled with reverence, safety, humility, loving-kindness, gentle challenge, and gratitude for your willingness to explore together. I will listen, if you are ready to share.

Kindred Art Therapy & Counseling provides creative, practical, and compassionate mental health support for college students and young adults throughout North Carolina. Our therapists specialize in ADHD, autism, anxiety, trauma, stress, identity development, life transitions, relationships, burnout, executive functioning, and the challenges of balancing school, work, relationships, and everyday life. We understand that college can bring exciting opportunities while also creating significant pressure, uncertainty, and overwhelm. Whether you are struggling with motivation, procrastination, time management, perfectionism, emotional regulation, social connection, academic stress, or simply feeling stuck, our team can help you better understand yourself and develop strategies that work with your brain and your life. Our approach combines evidence-based counseling with creative expression, art therapy, mindfulness, DBT-informed skills, and practical tools you can use outside of sessions. At Kindred, therapy is collaborative, strengths-based, and tailored to the individual. We focus not only on reducing distress, but also on helping clients build confidence, improve communication, strengthen relationships, develop self-acceptance, and create meaningful, sustainable change. We offer in-person counseling in Hendersonville, North Carolina, as well as secure telehealth appointments for college students throughout North Carolina. We welcome clients seeking a supportive, where they can show up authentically, build practical skills, and move forward with greater clarity and confidence.

Do you feel like you're facing something that you just can't figure out how to get past? Like you want to make a change in your life, but you just can't figure out how to get there? I am here to help; to walk with you on the journey; to support the growth that you know you can achieve if you can just get started. We all hold the capacity to thrive in our lives. My goal in working with you is to meet you where you are, help you identify the root of your challenge, build resilience, and help you unearth your inner strength and wisdom, so you can bloom to your fullest. With over 20 years of experience, I provide a personalized, non-judgmental approach with a focus on empowering you. Treatment is targeted to help you identify and reach your goals. I work with folks in person in my Asheville office, or by video sessions if you reside in another area of NC. My extensive experience working with women, and folks in the LGBTQ+ community, aids me in working with folks when they feel overwhelmed, are experiencing dissatisfaction in relationships, life transitions, trauma, and anxiety. You have extraordinary capacity for growth, strength, and love. I would be honored to support you on your journey.
Hey Hey! I'm Kayla (she/they)! Before I bore you with the therapy jargon, how about you get to know a little bit about who I am as a person first? If you catch me out around town, I am either bopping to the music in my headphones, reading, at a festival, or talking to a random stranger about their entire life story! I am a proud native of Charlotte, NC! I grew up helping out at my family’s restaurant, Sub One Hoagie House [shameless plug hehe] located in Uptown Charlotte. I can remember feeling so cool and infatuated by the idea that I had the opportunity to be so close to the Bank of America Stadium nearly every day of the week; which, until recently, I had still been calling the Panther’s Football Stadium… still sounds cooler to me! I have a passion for all things music; whether it be attending concerts, making music, or creating playlists that I am too scared to share with anyone else! In fact, I used to be one of the lead singers in a band where I'd travel on the weekends performing at weddings and other various corporate sponsored events. I've also been playing drums for over a decade and picked up guitar a few years ago; YouTube really comes in handy! I come from a very musical family if you hadn’t picked up on that :) Incorporating music, art, poetry/lyrics in sessions with clients is something I've seen to be very valuable, allowing my clients to tap into reflection and feeling that may otherwise be hard to express with just "regular ole'" talk-therapy! Those who know me would describe me as quirky, bubbly, and someone who has the ability to carry on a conversation with anyone, including a brick wall ☺ I love meeting new people while also continuing to build and foster the close relationships I already have. *Potentially* Fun Facts: - I like sunsets over sunrises. - I like music. -I like dancing. -I like talking. -I like the ocean. -I like mountainous terrain. -I like coffee. -I like smiling. -I like my dog (sometimes). - I like random facts. Okay.. Now, for the REAL reason you're here! I seek to provide a brave and encouraging space where clients are encouraged to speak from their own diverse and multicultural backgrounds, aiding in the ability to become more self-aware, self-accepting, and self-motivated. I co-create with clients to build a strong therapeutic relationship, discuss barriers to change, building self-encouragement, discussing techniques for change, and goal setting. I hope to help clients recognize limiting belief patterns and replace them with more functional and positive patterns of belief, behavior, and emotional expression. My approach to counseling combines elements of both Interpersonal and Developmental Psychotherapy, which focuses on the intersectionalities of a client’s development and their present behaviors, to help clients work toward productive change. Together, we will explore mutually agreed upon goals and treatment plans. Though it is impossible to guarantee any specific results regarding your goals or treatment plan, I assure you that I'll remain determined and attuned to your individual needs so you are able to achieve the best possible outcome. I welcome the opportunity to have a virtual meet and greet with you to determine whether we would be a great fit for one another in establishing a therapeutic relationship!
From the beginning, Carolinas Counseling Group has been committed to combining clinical expertise & current psychological research with the timeless wisdom of a Christian worldview. All of our therapists are fully licensed in the state of North Carolina and are committed Christians. Although all of us are Christians, we welcome all faith or non-religious perspectives. We commit that we will do all we can to help you feel welcome and free from any pressure to believe like we do. It is our goal for you to feel safe from critical judgment. At the same time, we want to convey our commitment to care for you and your loved ones within the framework of deep respect derived from our faith.
We specialize in treating anxiety, depression, OCD and addiction associated with eating behaviors, body image and body dissatisfaction. Our focus is to help you heal your relationship with food, eating and body image. I will walk alongside you in this journey of self-empowerment to find peace with food and your body.
You're both reflective, and self-critical, constantly trying to prove yourself. The strive for perfection, and loud inner critic leave you feeling exhausted both physically and emotionally. You want to feel better, but don't know where to begin... Whether you're navigating anxiety, processing trauma, or you’re exploring your relationship with food and/or your body, I want you to know things can get better. My work focuses on empowering college aged and younger adult women as they begin to connect with who they are, clarify what is important to them, and cultivate a life where they feel fulfilled, connected, and energized. My approach is warm, relational, trauma informed, and direct. I use humor when appropriate, and encourage my clients to show up authentically. I integrate somatic (body) based interventions like gentle movement, breathwork, and ifs-parts work with cognitive approaches to help you better identify, understand, and work through your thoughts and feelings. My passion is helping women explore and improve their relationships with food, their bodies, and ultimately, themselves. Together we can explore the deep rooted narratives you hold, and work on building a new story that feels both empowering and tangible. I strongly believe we heal through safe connection, so if you're ready and willing, let's connect!
I believe in a holistic approach to mental health. I recognize that mental well-being is just one piece of the puzzle and that your overall health and happiness are interconnected. Through a collaborative, creative, and challenging therapeutic process, we'll work together to address the barriers to your joy and help you develop the skills to overcome them.
People I work with often are starting out in therapy or interested in moving towards trauma work. If you're interested in learning how to slow it down, use mindfulness, or feel more connected to your body, I utilize narrative and somatic techniques to help people reclaim their peace, energy, and rest. As an Asian-Mexican-American psychotherapist, I enjoy helping people learn more about connecting to ancestry, spirituality, community healing and peer support resources that remind us we are all connected. When I'm not doing therapy I love going to the beach, writing, camping/hiking/backpacking, and traveling.
I provide respectful, understanding therapy to support you in living your best life. Whether you’re navigating relationship struggles, communication challenges, depression, anxiety, or the weight of “overthinking,” I’m here to help. My background as a PhD Developmental Psychologist, LMFT (Lic. 203700), and my experience with bipolar disorder, addiction, abuse, and crisis situations allow me to provide compassionate, evidence-based care tailored to your needs.

Jackie Quartuccio, LCSWA is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker Associate in North Carolina. She graduated with her Masters in Social Work from Rutgers University in New Jersey. Before receiving her graduate degree, Jackie spent time working for a non-profit alongside single mothers seeking family preservation services and studying psychology for her undergraduate degree. Jackie believes so passionately that counseling can be a helpful and healing process for those who seek such help. When Jackie was a teenager, she sought counseling herself and was able to identify her feelings and process them in a healthy way. This positive therapeutic experience drove her decision to go into the counseling field and sparked her passion to help those who find themselves in with similar negative thought patterns. Jackie strives to use various counseling modes to allow space for healing, growth, and freedom. True change can influence your physical, emotional, and relational health. She will work with you and/or your family to create a counseling plan focused on decreasing symptoms and improving quality of life. She enjoys building relationships with children, adults and couples.
I’ve experienced my own struggles with self-esteem, mental health, & relationship issues. These experiences have shaped me into a therapist who is empathetic, practical, & down-to-earth. I know the path to self-improvement & rebuilding your relationships can be challenging. Let's create those meaningful changes and new memories together.

Have you been resonating with the autistic experience that you're seeing others talk about? Are you suffering from autistic burnout after a lifetime of heavily masking your “real self”? Do you hold yourself to ridiculously high standards, then feel defeated when things don’t go perfectly? Is your connection with others not quite what you pictured it being at this stage in life? Does work completely exhaust you, but you can’t quite find a job that lights you up? I offer Autism evaluations and therapy to adults.
At Myers-Galloway Counseling, we specialize in supporting women who are used to holding everything together — for their families, their friends, and everyone around them — while quietly putting themselves last. We specialize in burnout, emotional neglect, over-responsibility, and the patterns that quietly wear you down over time.
