Therapists for college students near New York, NY
I specialize in helping people who have OCD, phobias and insomnia. It's very common for these problems to emerge in college, which can add immense pressure to an already intense time of life. Many people who struggle with these issues are very functional in other ways, and work hard to hide their pain. You may be used to solving problems on your own, and you might ask yourself "What's wrong with me? Why can't I fix this" when your usual strategies haven't helped. In our work together, I can help you understand why you keep getting stuck, and find a way to break free. My clients with OCD are smart, conscientious people who want to do the right thing. The things that they fear feel like very real possibilities to them, and they feel like it would be irresponsible to just ignore them. They want someone to tell them that everything is going to be okay, but when someone says that, they have a hard time believing it. They might go back and forth between feeling like other people are in denial about the terrible things that can happen in life, and feeling angry with themselves for not being able to stop spiraling. My treatment approach to OCD is very sensitive to these aspects of OCD. We don’t put energy into determining probabilities or disputing whether or not something is possible. Instead, we help you learn to trust in your own ability to distinguish between real world problems that deserve your time and attention, and OCD created problems that don’t need to be (and can’t be) solved because they are based on a believable, but false story. Once you feel confident that you can tell the difference between these two kinds of problems, you won’t feel the need to seek reassurance or do compulsions. People with specific phobias spend a lot of time and energy trying to avoid the thing that they fear. They are often very creative at finding work-arounds! At the same time, they might also feel limited by their phobias, and wish to seek help. Unfortunately, they might also have an impression that therapy will be like a sadistic game show, where they are forced to come into contact with something terribly frightening. This is not the case! Therapy for phobias is all about education and increasing your sense of self-efficacy and self-acceptance. We go at your pace, with the goal of helping you live your life freely. When you have insomnia, most advice about sleep is not helpful. You probably feel like you know more about sleep than anyone, and yet you still find yourself awake all night and exhausted all day. In therapy, I will listen to you and help you understand why you have been unable to sleep well. Then we will create a plan that actually helps you sleep!
Reaching out for help can be hard. We will do our best to provide a safe, supportive environment, when you can feel free to share as much as you need to. We consider therapy to be a collaboration between clinician and patient. Our job is to work with you to help you better understand your inner thoughts and feelings so that you can become the best version of you. We tend to follow patterns of behavior based on our earliest identities. Some of us go through life thinking we are not smart enough, not good looking enough, not capable enough, or not as good as others. It's important to understand that these beliefs are not in fact reality, but an internalized sense of self that we have learned from our earliest experiences. Because of these beliefs, we can often find ourselves repeating unhealthy patterns in relationships, how we deal with stress, social isolation, engaging in unhealthy or risky behaviors, and all manner of acting out in self-destructive ways. Therapy can help re-define who you are, so that instead following these unhealthy patterns, you can make choices that are informed by what you really want, as opposed to what you think you deserve. Therapy is not a quick fix. It takes time and commitment, and it is hard. We are ready to make that commitment with you, and be with you on your journey of self-discovery, so that you can become the author of your own life, rather than letting it be written for you. As a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner with 33 years of experience in healthcare, I believe people deserve more than just getting through the day. I’m passionate about helping individuals discover that there is a better way than carrying the weight of the world while trying to convince everyone — including themselves — that everything is fine. I specialize in trauma-informed care, depression, anxiety, PTSD, schizophrenia, and bipolar disorder, working with adolescents and adults who feel overwhelmed, stuck, anxious, or disconnected from the life they want to be living. Many people spend years pushing through stress, emotional pain, and life's demands, only to feel overwhelmed, exhausted, or burdened by guilt and self-doubt when things become difficult to manage. Mental health challenges rarely stem from a single issue. Often, they are shaped by life experiences, relationships, stressors, and circumstances that influence one another over time, sometimes leaving people caught in patterns of thinking, feeling, or behaving that feel frustrating or confusing, without a clear sense of where those patterns began. All of these stories matter. Through my professional experience and personal journey, I’ve learned that from the moment we enter the world, our experiences, relationships, and circumstances shape how we see ourselves and navigate life. Sometimes the hand we are dealt is difficult, and the ways we learn to cope, survive, and protect ourselves can unintentionally create additional struggles along the way. Mental health is not separate from the rest of our lives — it influences how we think, feel, respond to stress, connect with others, and move through the world. My goal is to help you gain insight into your story, recognize patterns that may be holding you back, and discover your own capacity for healing, growth, and meaningful change. My approach is curious, compassionate, and collaborative. Rather than focusing solely on symptoms, I take the time to understand the bigger picture, recognizing that mental health challenges are often shaped by a combination of life experiences, relationships, stressors, and personal circumstances. Understanding the whole story allows us to develop practical, individualized strategies that help make life's challenges feel more manageable and create lasting, meaningful change. Central to that work is uncovering the "why" behind the struggle. Long-standing patterns of guilt, shame, self-doubt, or emotional exhaustion can make it genuinely difficult to move forward, especially when those patterns don't seem to connect to anything obvious on the surface. Together, we explore them with curiosity rather than judgment, tracing the factors that may be contributing to what you're experiencing now. While doing this work you can always expect a warm, solution-focused environment where you feel heard and understood. Meaningful progress starts with a trusting relationship and a thorough understanding of your unique experiences, challenges, and goals. My style is trauma-informed at its core: I recognize that past experiences often shape how we think, feel, relate to others, and respond to stress in the present. From there, I tailor my approach to you, combining insight with practical strategies that support self-understanding, build resilience, and create the kind of change that lasts. My path into mental health care was shaped by both professional and personal experiences. As the director of a COVID ICU during the pandemic, I witnessed the emotional impact that illness, uncertainty, loss, and burnout had on patients, families, and healthcare professionals. It reinforced my belief that mental and emotional well-being go hand in hand. My passion for mental health deepened when my grandson experienced a mental health crisis at a young age. Despite working in healthcare, I witnessed firsthand how difficult it can be to navigate the system, find resources, and connect with providers who truly understand what individuals and families are going through. These experiences strengthened my commitment to providing compassionate, whole-person care that helps people feel heard, understood, and supported as they uncover the deeper roots of their struggles, access their own capacity for healing, and create powerful, lasting change.
As a social worker and psychotherapist with 8 years of experience, I offer collaborative, open, and nonjudgmental care for people interested in coming into deeper relationships with their full selves. I particularly enjoy working with caregivers, artists, neurodivergent individuals, LGBTQ+ folks, and creative people who are navigating questions about identity, relationships, and belonging. Many come to therapy burdened by beliefs that stem from systemic oppression, trauma, or early relational experiences. They may struggle with anxiety, self-doubt, dissociation, or the pressure to care for others at the expense of themselves. They’re looking for a space where they can slow down, tune-in, and make sense of their inner world. Their goals may include building more authentic relationships, developing greater self-compassion, and finding ways to live and create in a more full and embodied way. If this resonates with your search for greater mental wellness, please reach out today. I look forward to building a connection as your honest and participatory partner, embarking on this journey together through a systems-based and anti-oppressive lens tailored to your unique strengths and desires for change. I offer a therapeutic holding environment grounded in careful listening, curiosity, and the shared messiness and delight of being human. My work is relational and psychodynamic, meaning we explore how past and present relationships shape our emotional lives while working together toward deeper self-understanding, greater self-compassion, and more freedom in how you relate to yourself and others. Therapy with me makes room for opposites – we can acknowledge the patterns that helped you survive, and that they might be causing you difficulty right now. We can hold grief and hope in the same hour. And, we can move slowly and intentionally through these contradictions together. I am dedicated to bringing warmth, honesty, and a bit of humor into the room as we explore these patterns and emotions, including how they show up between us and in the words you choose. While we do this deeper work, I integrate Dialectal Behavior Therapy (DBT) skills to support you in concretely managing day-to-day challenges and holding the immense complexity this world has to offer us. My path to becoming a therapist began with providing home visits to LGBTQ+ older adults. In this work, I became familiar with the unique challenges and resiliencies that queer people and communities build over their lifespans. This experience deepened my commitment to providing open, nonjudgemental, and trauma-informed care. This is assured by listening with a careful presence that is affirming of kink, sex work, and polyamory in every session. In my free time, I love expressing my creative side through crafts like knitting and embroidery, reading, and cooking. I also enjoy spending time with my foster cats!
As an MHC-LP, I help adults age 18+ navigate anxiety, depression, stress management, grief, self-esteem, and life transitions. My mission is to help you identify and utilize your inherent strengths, taking a collaborative, empowering, and empathetic approach that builds an authentic relationship where you feel seen, heard, and respected. If you’re interested in working with a supportive, humanistic, and eclectic therapist focused on your healing and growth, please reach out today. You deserve authenticity and unconditional positive regards that promote safety and healing. I am dedicated to ensuring just that by providing expectations of a warm and nonjudgmental environment tailored to your unique needs and goals. Care may include Mindfulness, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy to help you achieve those goals by exploring your thoughts, feelings, and experiences during our work together. My passion for therapy began with my own personal experience in counseling. Through my work with my individual therapist, I came to understand therapy as a tool to help people transform their lives. This experience showed me firsthand the value of providing supportive care and positive regard to patients who may struggle to view themselves kindly. In my care now, I remain committed to that value, bringing genuine compassion and authenticity to each session. When I’m not seeing patients, I love to unwind by sitting down with a good book, playing the piano, and spending time with my adorable cat, Finn.
Life is full of challenges, and sometimes we all need a little extra support to navigate them. As a Licensed Master Social Worker, my work is grounded in the belief that every person deserves compassionate, individualized care that meets them exactly where they are. Whether you're managing anxiety, working through a major life transition, navigating relationship difficulties, or looking to build confidence and resilience, I'm here to walk alongside you. My specialties span anxiety, stress management, relationship issues, self-esteem, and life coaching for adults, teens, and children alike. Alongside this, I bring dedicated expertise in supporting individuals with developmental disabilities, including autism, learning disabilities, and language disorders. At the heart of everything I do is a commitment to advocating for the whole person and equipping you with the tools and skills you need to grow. I look forward to being a compassionate, consistent partner in your healing journey and witnessing the strength and resilience that comes from doing this meaningful work together. In our work together, you can expect a warm, safe, and nonjudgmental space where you are truly seen and heard. Therapy here is person-centered and strengths-based, designed to feel empowering rather than overwhelming, and always tailored to your unique needs, goals, and lived experiences. Drawing from a range of evidence-based approaches, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA), and psychoeducation, we'll work collaboratively to build meaningful skills and create lasting change. My style is flexible and collaborative, because no two people are alike, and your care shouldn't be either. My path to becoming a therapist grew was rooted in a simple but powerful belief that all people, regardless of age or background, sometimes need help and extra support. This belief has been shaped and strengthened across a range of settings, from higher education and hospitals to pediatric clinics, with each experience deepening my commitment to versatile, compassionate, and individualized care. Working across these environments, I've witnessed firsthand the profound impact that change can have, not only on an individual, but on everyone around them. That perspective informs every session. With an extensive background supporting individuals on the autism spectrum and experience across a broad range of developmental needs, I bring both professional expertise and genuine understanding to our work. No matter where you are in your journey, it is never too late to take that first step toward growth and healing. Outside of the therapy room, you'll find me staying active, whether that's out for a run or exploring new ways to move. I love trying new foods, discovering different cuisines, and getting creative through arts and crafts. These passions for movement, curiosity, and creativity carry over into how I approach my work with patients every day.

I specialize in working with young adults who are struggling with anxiety, depression, self-esteem issues, and navigating life's challenges. I strive to create a supportive and validating environment. Together, we will work to uncover patterns of behavior or recurring thoughts that may be having a negative impact on how you feel. We will develop useful coping tools to help you make meaningful changes in your life.
Much of my practice has centered around understanding the unique complexities surrounding identity development and interpersonal relationships. I work with a wide range of presenting issues such as anxiety, depression, relationship conflict, grief, and trauma. I specialize in relationship distress, life transitions, communication challenges, sexuality and gender related issues, and consensual non-monogamy/polyamory. I believe that transformative therapy begins with a collaborative and trusting therapeutic partnership, one that highlights the unique knowledge, strengths, and skill sets of each client entering the room. Through trauma-informed practice, I aim to facilitate a safe and affirming therapeutic space. I recognize the ways in which institutions, systems, and intersectional identities impact individual experiences and overall wellbeing. My integrated approach to psychotherapy is based upon person-centered, existential, and attachment-based perspectives. I am passionate about exploring the ways in which attachment and trauma impact how an individual’s identity is formed.
Are you naturally empathic, maybe having been labeled as “too sensitive?" at some point in your life? Using Brainspotting (a trauma intervention like EMDR) and IFS (a body-based parts work modality), I support deep-feeling queer, neurodivergent, and creative clients navigating anxiety, depression, struggles with self-love, parental/family dysfunction, and more - through the lens of social justice and the power of radical self compassion. Working together, we will sift through what you truly desire & the old messages that might be standing in your way.
Welcome! I’m glad you’re here, ready to embark upon the path toward a better tomorrow. Do you feel stuck or overwhelmed on that path now? Are you are navigating anxiety, depression, trauma, ADHD, grief, or major life transitions? You are not alone. I am a board-certified psychiatric nurse practitioner providing personalized mental health care for adolescents and adults. Together, we work to quiet the noise of these symptoms so you can refocus on what matters most to you. I look forward to helping you feel more empowered and connected to your life as we work toward meaningful and lasting change. My approach is grounded and collaborative, integrating medication management with supportive therapy, tailoring treatment to your unique needs and goals. I see medication as one of many possible tools that may be valuable for some, but not necessary for everyone. When used mindfully, it can help ease barriers and allow therapy to unfold more fully. No matter the therapeutic approach, I believe you are the expert of your own lived experience; my role is to walk alongside you with curiosity and compassion. Whether we are exploring your story through talk therapy, considering medication options, or both, my priority is to create a space where you feel safe, heard, and understood. Drawing on my background in neuroscience and psychology, I am dedicated to caring for the whole person rather than just a diagnosis. This foundation guides my commitment to showing up with a presence that is as evidence-based as it is human. Outside of the office, I find my own balance through reading, skiing, cooking, and spending quality time with my friends and family.
Our drive as therapists has always been to help others, and to help guide clients into finding their inner peace at a time when so many - and understandably so - have felt an intense amount of anxiety, sadness, and just an overall sense of emotional turmoil. We work through a lot of things with our clients: how to get unstuck, establishing boundaries, feeling more confident, and finding strategies to work through the anxiety and depression that plagues so many, to name a few. Most importantly however, we hope to be able to help you reclaim your own space in a world that demands you to be quiet. To be able to really live. Unapologetically. Bravely.
-Are you struggling with the transition to a more independent phase of life? -Are you overwhelmed by the transition to college and balancing everything on your own for the first time? -Do you feel like everyone else but you has somehow figured out “adulting”? -Are you getting into conflicts with your parents, feeling like they still view you as a child? Many young adults feel alone in these experiences, with the idea that everyone else seems to “have it all together.” Transitions such as graduating high school, starting college, starting your first job, experiencing your first relationship, and working towards being financially independent are all exciting moments in time, but they can also bring stress and uncertainty. College students might be thrown by how much harder academic life is than in high school, no longer having the structure and accountability provided by teachers or parents. Making friends in a new setting may also be harder than you expected, leading to feelings of failure. Especially since having a social life with peers can feel even more important when you’re far from home. Coming home from college for the summer or winter break, many people are thrown by the fact that their friends have grown and evolved in ways that may be different than them, making friendships feel different. If things aren’t working out as you expected, you may start to feel down or depressed, or a sense of isolation and loneliness. That’s where we enter in. We’d love to help you feel a little less alone in this phase of life and to start working through the challenges you’ve been dealing with. At Elevate CBT, we specialize in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), which focuses on addressing thinking and behavioral patterns that may be keeping you stuck and preventing you from having the life you want. It’s a very goal-driven kind of therapy, so your therapist will work with you to identify what is currently a struggle in your life, and what you want to work towards to have a more satisfying life. We have helped many young adults in therapy work towards finding their “people” and figuring out aspects of their identities, improving academic organization and decreasing procrastination, creating a more balanced relationship with alcohol or weed, and asserting independence from parents while still being respectful of the ways in which parental support may still be needed. We also specialize in working with young adults with anxiety, panic attacks, insomnia, OCD, BFRBs (hair pulling and skin picking), trauma, and eating/body image concerns. Our goal is to create a comfortable environment for you to learn more about yourself, your emotions, and how to change behavior in the direction of your desired goals. Balancing self-compassion with pushing yourself outside of your comfort zone, we will work together to help you achieve the life you want.

My approach begins with curiosity and non-judgment. Together we will create a space where we can talk about anything whether that may be sexuality, gender identity, disability, or family trauma. I believe that the healing is rooted within the relationship. As someone who lives with chronic pain, I want to hold space for the challenges that individuals face when managing their own care while celebrating the often ignored strengths it takes to do so. I understand that we live hectic lives that require flexibility and compassion but that therapy also thrives when there is structure and challenge. Together, we will work to understand what unique challenges you are facing in your present, that may be influenced by pieces of your history. By gaining a deeper sense of yourself and tuning out the outside noise, you become more attuned to your own inner compass to guide yourself when facing life’s many opportunities and challenges. Everyone is unique, so please feel free to reach out to schedule an initial consultation to explore how therapy can be a helpful tool in your journey.
The Grief & Bereavement Club is the worst club ever, and we all join it eventually – but it doesn't have to be the loss of a loved one that brings us there. My interest is in working with anyone going through a major life change or loss. Whether it's the loss of a person, a pet, a home, or a job, I want to work with you to learn how to live in this new reality of your life. I'm a therapist specializing in grief counseling for those experiencing loss of any kind, be it a loved one, a relationship, a profession, a home, a sense of self, or a terminal illness. Whatever brought you to therapy, I don't care. I'm just glad you're here. I'm honored to be part of your journey, whatever you wish to work on. My goal as a therapist is to help you navigate whatever has brought us together. For those experiencing grief or facing the end of life, we may draw on approaches like Meaning Making, Dignity Therapy, Narrative Therapy, and even Play Therapy. No matter the modality, we’ll look at therapy as a collaborative exercise, and work together to find what you respond to. We'll approach your journey from session to session. Some weeks you may need structure, other times you may just need to be in the moment with someone who listens. We're going to roll with it together, and you can expect some levity along the way. There are so many serious things that bring people to this room; sometimes a little laughter makes all the difference. Before becoming a therapist, I volunteered at domestic abuse emergency shelters and worked as a padded instructor for women's self-defense companies. After a series of personal losses, I found I had gained fluency in the language of grief, and felt called to be of service to those experiencing their own. I've been a martial artist since I was five years old, with belts in Krav Maga, Tang Soo Do, and Eskrima. You'll often find me on the subway reading my book of the month, usually on the way to a theater, a convention, or a renaissance fair.
I work with individuals, couples, and families who feel overwhelmed by anxiety, relationship challenges, or the complexities of multicultural and minority identity, including those adjusting to life in the U.S. as immigrants or managing the pressures of being an international professional. In therapy, I provide a safe space to explore these experiences, understand patterns, and develop strategies for self-understanding and emotional regulation, helping clients move toward a more fulfilling and authentic life. I specialize in supporting clients experiencing anxiety, depression, workplace burnout, relational conflicts, migration stress, and minority identity struggles. I help clients reconnect with their inner strengths and build healthier relationships. My focus includes international professionals, immigrants, and minority individuals. As psychoanalyst Nancy McWilliams writes, making mistakes and wishing we had done things differently is not a sign of pathology—it is part of the human condition. I bring this belief to my work, creating a space where clients feel understood, supported, and empowered to create meaningful change.
