You're smart. You've always figured things out. So why does it feel like your emotions are the one thing you can't get a handle on? Maybe you've got the grades, the group chat, the schedule packed with things you're "supposed" to want... and still find yourself lying in bed at 2am wondering why everything feels so heavy. That's actually exactly the kind of thing I work on with you in therapy. I'm Mallory Grimste, LCSW, a therapist based in Branford, CT who specializes in working with teens, college students, and young adults who are emotionally overwhelmed and high-achieving at the same time. (Yes, both. It's more common than you think.) I use a DBT-informed approach, which basically means I teach real, practical strategies- the kind you can actually use when you're about to crash out before a big exam or spiraling after a hard conversation. We can work on anxiety, depression, self-esteem, identity, and navigating relationships — including the one you have with yourself. My clients don't just feel better in session. They leave treatment feeling more confident in who they are, more capable of handling the hard stuff, and genuinely proud of how far they've come. I offer telehealth sessions in Connecticut and New York, and in-person sessions in Branford, CT. If that sounds like what you've been looking for, I'd love to connect. 👉 Learn more and apply to work together: mallorygrimste.com/counseling-services
I approach each individual with curiosity & acceptance. I see my clients as the real experts on themselves- each in the process of navigating the world & learning as they go. I'm actively non-judgmental & find it most therapeutic to provide clients with a safe context in which to explore thoughts & feelings, gain insight, & problem solve in a lasting & empowering manner. I actively listen & offer feedback, reflection, levity, education &, depending upon the issue at hand, more directive advice. The needs of each client naturally vary. I believe it is important to meet people where they are, rather than to apply a specific modality or approach. One of my guiding principles is to "Assume Nothing." I find this allows a clients most pressing needs to unfold more naturally. One of my specialty areas is the human-animal bond. Companion animals play an important role in our individual lives and as members of the family. Issues that can be a focus of treatment: loss of a pet, pets and divorce, children and pets, illness of a pet, emotional support animals, animal advocacy.
The beauty of therapy is its ability to provide a safe space, unbiased, listening ears, and dedicated time to focus on you. I believe the therapeutic relationship is central. It creates the foundation necessary to promote mental and emotional growth and well-being. Therefore, each session we will work to build an alliance, which will become instrumental for making progress and attaining your identified goals. Using an integrative approach will allow me to tailor our time together to best meet your needs. I will highlight your strengths and provide you with the tools necessary to strengthen the areas you wish to improve. In addition to others, I have a special interest in working with those invested in holistic health, more specifically a mind/body connection. I am here to support, guide, and encourage you throughout this journey, as you take control. Reaching out takes courage; it is the first step in the direction of growth and positive changes. I look forward to creating a space where listening is focal, empathy is provided, improvements are acknowledged, goals are accomplished, and individuality is celebrated. Come as you are!
I am so glad you're here! I hope to offer you a safe space where you are the sole focus. I work with clients to help them assess their life as a whole to establish their needs, wants and wishes free of judgment or shame. I believe in the importance of helping clients develop and utilize a tool kit to manage life’s transitions and challenges. Today, I primarily work with clients facing anxiety, depression, and the emotional weight of past trauma or present-day stressors.
I am a psychoanalyst, psychotherapist, and personal coach practicing in person in Hudson N.Y. and online for people located elsewhere. I work together with people to help them achieve a greater sense of well being and to reach their life goals by identifying, exploring, and overcoming obstacles to their ability to live life in accord with their true selves.
Therapy can be scary and I understand how overwhelming it may feel to begin the treatment process. Therefore, it is my goal to create a safe, comfortable and judgement free environment for each of my clients. Together, it is my hope to build a trusting, therapeutic relationship to support each client's healing and growth. I believe that it is my role as a therapist to allow each client to be heard and to guide them through the change process in a way that makes sense for them.

Hey there! College is a whole other world—fun, stressful, overwhelming, and everything in between. Maybe you’re juggling deadlines, relationships, family pressure, or just trying to figure out who the heck you are and what you actually want. If anxiety, burnout, or self-doubt are getting in the way of your happiness (or your grades), you’re not alone—and you don’t have to figure it all out by yourself. I help college students who feel stuck, anxious, or drained by people-pleasing and perfectionism. If you’re ready to feel more in control of your life, let’s chat.

I am also certified as a Sex Therapist through AASECT, the American Association of Sex Educators, Counselors and Therapists. Several years ago I realized I am autistic and now I address issues experienced by people who are autistic/ Asperger's or those who wonder whether they may carry that diagnosis. I also see people with other forms of neurodivergence such as ADHD. Originally I am from Boston and grew up in a working class family with a commitment to political activism. I am licensed in NY and FL as well as Oregon and Washington State. Although I offer some reduced fee spots I am sorry to say they are consistently full.

My approach is non-judgemental, client centered, and trauma informed. Together we can work through whatever challenges you are facing to meet goals that have seemed difficult to attain. My intention is to pave the way toward healing, acceptance of your full authentic self, and long-term growth. Drawing on knowledge from queer, and critical race theory, we will work collaboratively to help you navigate systemic issues and its impact on your intersecting identities. I specialize in working with queer and trans individuals, BIPOC folks, military and first responders. I use a harm reduction lens when working on eating concerns, substance use concerns, and co-occurring issues.
As students or professionals, it is more common than we recognize to be depleted by our daily routine, school or family; to experience self doubt, become overwhelmed or to live with ongoing stress/trauma. Without an opportunity for mental restoration we can become burnt out or disconnected by persistent feelings of depression, anxiety, frustration, apathy, grief or even chronic pain and illness. My aim for each client is to help you develop a greater sense of self-awareness, balance and control over your life. Even if you aren't quite sure of what it is you need - we'll figure it out together. I use a mixture of mixture of traditional therapeutic approaches and Nature Based Therapy (NBT), done either outdoors or in combination with telehealth. This could look as simple as a walk in a park or with more, immersive sensory experiences in nature to get your body in motion and feeling more alive. The ultimate goal is to reduce stress and increase your social, emotional, and physical wellbeing.
I applaud you for your courage in exploring therapy. I specialize in anxiety, depression, addiction, recovery, grief, loss, LGBTQ+ issues, stress, relationships, self-esteem, and trauma. I employ a Person-Centered, Cognitive-Behavioral approach, emphasizing the reality that what we tell ourselves affects both how we feel and our actions. I also integrate the Psychodynamic perspective, exploring how our early experiences affect the now, and a Solution-Focused modality to help clients problem solve. I sprinkle in Existentialist, Narrative, REBT, & DBT strategies as well, creating a safe, non-judgmental & trusting environment. All are welcome and included in my therapeutic, affirming, and supportive sanctuary. I am a University Lecturer of Psychology at Fordham University. I specialize in EMDR for treating trauma and have worked extensively with first responders on work-related stress & traumas. My research focuses on the sense of belonging for LGBTQ+ community college students. Let me help you reclaim your power by guiding you on the process of choosing love over fear. I look forward to showing you how to use your light to honor your true, authentic self, align with your soul's purpose, and cultivate the courage to love yourself and, ultimately, others unconditionally. You are already enough exactly as you are. Much peace. Just be.
I specialize in working with folks who struggle with recurring panic attacks, anxiety, or intrusive thoughts and repetitive behaviors. I teach you how anxiety and panic actually work so you can build skills to finally take back control and live more confidently.
