Therapists for college students near 97203
As a University of Oregon Graduate, I understand the challenges students can face. College can be presented as a fun experience where you meet new people and prepare for your future. While we all hope this is the case, sometimes life happens. The pressure of classes, grades, family, or personal challenges can get in the way of your experience. Having the right support system and tools to navigate life as a student is important, and I am here to help.
My name is Paul Radel and I am a clinical social worker with over 15 years of experience working with individuals to address issues and maximize their potential. I strive to create an environment that is welcoming and safe where people can work collaboratively on their journey. Transitioning into college or post college has a plethora of stressors, options, and uncertainty that can be hard to navigate, especially when maladaptive patterns or past experiences get in the way of being our best selves. I live in Eugene, Oregon but practice soley through telehealth software called intakeQ which offers secure and confidential communication and hosts therapy sessions.
Feeling like a shadow of your former self. Just going through the motions. All this pretending, performing—it’s exhausting. You’ve become a master at molding yourself to fit others’ expectations of you. And just to keep the peace. And social media is messing with your mental health. Every scroll through Instagram feels like being bombarded by a barrage of perfect lives. You can’t help but compare, feeling like you’re coming up short. And so you dive deeper into the people-pleasing game, losing yourself in the process, just craving some validation. How do you even begin to claw your way out of this hot mess express? You’re not wrong, change isn’t always crystal clear. But hand me that brain teaser. Before you know it, you’re on a clear path to your goals. Fast forward, you’ve ditched the stuff holding you back from happiness. You even love your messy, imperfect parts. Now, you’re fully embracing the real, confident you. Ditching anything that chips away at your self-worth. Nodding along? I’ve got you covered. Combining your drive for change with EMDR therapy is sure to bring incredible results. Think of EMDR as a train ride through your past, leaving issues behind as you move forward. It’s time to unlock your true potential. I’m here for you every step of the way. Ready to chat? Any of us, from adults to very young children, can experience life challenges that require the caring support of other people. Sometimes we need help to navigate these challenges, and to heal, reorient, and move forward in our lives toward better health and wholeness. When the emotional support of friends and family is not enough, establishing a safe, collaborative relationship with a psychotherapist can be a valuable resource. I enjoy working with students who are ready to access support and guidance in order to address the social-emotional or mental health challenges that are holding them back; the changes and healing they are seeking in their relationships with parents, other family members, friends and/or partners; and clarification of needs, wants and life goals.

I have experience supporting adolescents and young adults struggling with relationship challenges, stress, depression, anxiety, trauma, emotion regulation, life transitions/adjustments, and adoption. It would be my privilege to come alongside you as you explore, identify, and work to resolve the root of your challenges, as you author new narratives for yourself and your experiences, and as you develop skills for relief and resilience. I work from an attachment and trauma-responsive lens. I am trained in Brainspotting and am a Certified Grief-Informed Professional. My approach is eclectic: I draw on skills from Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), experiential therapies, narrative therapy, and somatic therapy.

I primarily support LGBTQIA+ and/or BIPOC adults who struggle with being their full, authentic selves navigate challenging systems and relationships. Clients often come to me worried that by making meaningful changes in their lives, they are being selfish. They might find themselves in work environments that are unsupportive, relationships they feel unfulfilled by, and friendships that seem unbalanced. It's a frustrating cycle, and they want their lives to be different, but are unsure how. After working with me, clients find themselves feeling more able to care for themselves, find joy in being with others, and feel more at peace with themselves. I approach therapy collaboratively and value humor, identity, and compassionate honesty in the therapeutic relationship. I also provide Brainspotting and Internal Family Systems treatment for trauma and provide letters for gender-affirming medical services. I know how frustrating it is to be unheard and unseen. I would love to help you explore how to better engage with yourself and others to become more authentically you. I have a social justice orientation and am affirming of all genders, sexualities, body sizes, and differing relationship structures. If any of the above spoke to you, let's chat!
I specialize in trauma therapy, with extensive experience supporting survivors of sexual violence and other traumatic experiences. If you’ve been through something overwhelming, it can feel like a fog has settled over you, affecting every part of your life. You might find yourself overthinking, being on edge, shutting down, or feeling numb, even when you want to feel present and connected. Many people I work with feel stuck in this space and are unsure how to move forward. Together, we’ll work to understand and process your emotions, thoughts, and past experiences so they no longer hold the same power over you. I use EMDR and other approaches to help you address what’s at the core of your symptoms. Feeling safe and understood is essential to this work. We’ll move at a pace that’s manageable for you, creating a space where you can show up as you are without pressure or judgment. While this is a vulnerable process, it’s also what allows for deep, lasting healing. Therapy can help you relate to yourself with more clarity and compassion, develop new patterns, and move toward the life you want to live. If you’re ready to feel more grounded, connected, and fully yourself—and to feel more in control of your life—I invite you to reach out. We’ll start with a conversation and see if working together feels like a good fit.

What do you do when what everyone calls "the best years of your life' just aren't?? The transition from home to college is an exciting one, but one that brings with it many new experiences...leaving home (sometimes for the first time), living more independently, meeting a whole world of new people, and learning more about yourself...your strengths and weaknesses. As a college student you often face adversities such as a lack of stability, increased social and pressures, and a strong push towards academic hyper-achievement. Together with familial and social (media) pressure college students often experience changes in sleep, eating and energy patterns, irritability, a loss of interest in activities previously enjoyed, and substance abuse. Knowing when you need support, and taking the initiative to actually get that help is an important first step in figuring things out. Whether you are dealing with anxiety, depression, homesickness, finding your people or just trying to figure yourself out I hope that I can help.
