My top goal in therapy is to create a trusted partnership, built on empathy, honest feedback, and adaptive support. I provide a safe space to explore, understand, and work through difficulties. Together we work to expand insight, hone goals, and enact processes that reduce distress and change unwanted patterns. Clinically, I assess wellbeing using Ecological and Biopsychosocial Model perspectives. My work with clients is rooted in Humanistic and Cognitive-Behavioral models, and integrates strategies drawn from other approaches, including ACT, IFS, and MI therapies. However, my approach varies with each person, based on their unique needs, cultural contexts, and current circumstances. I often help clients with concerns related to anxiety, depression, relationships, focus/performance, existence/spirituality, academic/career development, and general well-being. I also frequently provide support for specific concerns, including identity development (cultural/sexual/gender/etc.), processing grief, resolving trauma, and substance use. All of us go through times when we feel overwhelmed or lost, and it's difficult to work through that alone. When looking for a therapist, consider what qualities (e.g., empathy, structure, logic) might help you most at this point. I'm happy to talk with you by phone about what you're looking for, how I work with clients, and any questions you have.

Currently accepting new patients! I have experience treating a wide range of psychiatric conditions, including anxiety, depression, PTSD, bipolar disorder, and more. I am passionate about helping students find freedom in their mental health journey!
I specialize in assessing and treating anxiety, depression, PTSD, trauma, and neurodevelopmental disorders, including ADHD and Level 1 Autism. My approach recognizes how traumatic experiences deeply affect mental, emotional, physical, and spiritual well-being. In therapy, we will explore the powerful connection between mind and body, working together to regain control over your life and build a more adaptive understanding of past experiences. My therapeutic interventions focus on developing resilience, strengthening self-confidence, managing symptoms effectively, and fostering new neural pathways that support more positive, meaningful experiences.

Therapy can be helpful no matter where we start. It can help us cope with stress and life transitions, heal from trauma, cultivate new skills, and build a life worth living. I enjoy supporting clients as they get to know different parts of themselves, and build friendlier relationships with these parts. Providing warm, non-judgmental, and collaborative support is at the core of my practice. My personal and professional experience as a multiracial person makes me passionate about supporting diverse clients. I enjoy working with clients varying in age, gender identity, race/ethnicity, sexual orientation, health concerns, nationality, and religion. I have over 15 years of experience working with clients across a myriad of concerns. Some areas of focus include anxiety, trauma, depression, LGBTQIA+, couples therapy, gender affirming care, eating and body image concerns.
I value authenticity, empathy, and self-awareness, both for myself and my clients, and as a critical part of the therapeutic process (I also take advantage of the healing power of laughter whenever possible!). I aim to normalize and validate my clients’ experiences without judgment, and above all, provide the most basic of human needs: to feel seen and heard. My name is Stephanie (Stephanie or Stevie is fine) and I have been providing therapy in NJ exclusively via telehealth for about the last 4 years (prior to that, in person). If you have been struggling with symptoms of depression or anxiety, particularly if they are related to a traumatic experience, I would love the opportunity to work with you to reduce your mood- or anxiety-related symptoms, and to help you to experience a present that is not overshadowed or negatively impacted by situations and events from your past. I love working with women ages 20 to 30-something who are still in academia or just starting out in their careers, but also love working with women of any age. I frequently work with survivors of child sexual abuse, as well as those struggling with issues related to self-esteem/self-worth, but have treated many others as well. While experience and education are an absolute necessity to do this work, I believe that my lived experience has had a profound impact on both my ability to build strong therapeutic relationships and to be a more effective therapist. My ability to connect with clients has only been strengthened by my personal experiences with child sexual abuse, growing up with a parent with serious mental illness, and managing chronic depression since childhood, as well as through supporting loved ones through the complexities of mental illness, suicide, sexual abuse, special needs, chronic illness/pain, estrangement, dissociation, mood disorders, autism spectrum disorder, AD/HD, divorce, parenting, emotional and financial abuse, and coercive control. While I am not generally a "glass half full" person, nor do I necessarily believe that things happen for a reason, I do believe that if you're smart, you'll look for something to learn from the pain and from the healing. Doing so has lead me to this work and I want so much to show you what is on the other side of your pain. My background has also provided me with experiences that can be drawn upon when building relationships with clients. I have had the privilege of having known, grown up with, and cared deeply about people from a variety of backgrounds, races, nationalities, gender identities, sexual orientations, etc. In terms of strengths, I am unfailingly authentic, resilient, intelligent, curious, non-judgmental, and (at least in my personal life) hilarious ;) And by the way, all of those strengths? They were not so much developed as they were uncovered…through therapy. :) Please visit my website for blog and feedback from clients: www.of2mindstherapy.com *My practice is focused primarily on treating adults who identify as female as well as being a welcoming space for members of the LGBTQIA+ community. I do not currently treat cisgender heterosexual males, children or adolescents. I am currently licensed to treat clients in NJ, CT, OR, and WA Please reach out to see if your insurance is accepted. My therapeutic approach centers on the holistic well-being of individuals, with a particular focus on working with millennial female clients. My aim is to facilitate, through a strengths-based approach, your therapeutic journey towards enhanced well-being and deeper insight into your thoughts and behaviors (as well as understanding the roots of our cognitive and behavioral patterns). While my therapeutic toolbox encompasses Reiki, EMDR, IFS, and mindfulness techniques, I customize therapy sessions to suit each individual, allowing for flexibility beyond these established frameworks. I'm licensed in CO, TX, MT, OR, ID, WY, WA, and FL.
You are enough. There is nothing wrong with your body. You have always been deserving of love, respect, and softness. Yes, even you! Whether it’s strengthening your relationship with yourself through developing more self-compassion, guiding you in how to communicate more effectively with your partner, or helping you navigate a rough conflict with your best friend, I am here to provide you with non-judgmental support every step of the way. My clients are often fat folks, queer besties, sex workers, and people experiencing chronic pain or chronic illness. This is a space for you to be seen, heard, and validated in your beauty and complexity. I will always be transparent with you about the ins and outs of the therapeutic process because I believe that collaboration and consent are vital to creating safety and trust in our time together. I view therapy as a potential cozy space for corrective, reparative experiences that can start to soften clients’ inner experiences. That’s the whole idea behind the name “Soft Spot”: melting away the hardness that our society or trauma forces unto us and, in place, deepening into more of the lovely softness that’s always been there. You get to delight in the pleasure of being you.

My name is Kaci Schmitt (she/her). I am happy and honored to be able to offer counseling and therapy services to children, adolescents, and adults in Portland, Oregon, and Vancouver, Washington, as well as throughout the states of Oregon and Washington for teletherapy. I truly enjoy working with clients who are looking to process various experiences, transitions, and challenges in their lives, as well as gain knowledge, trust, and compassion for themselves and deepen their capacity for mental and emotional wellness. There are times in life where we can use an empathic, nonjudgmental therapist who can be present with us as we explore our challenges and develop insight. In addition to deeply listening to you, I will hold space for your stories, history, and cultural experiences, as well as encourage you to hold compassion and curiosity for your unique challenges. I specialize in working with teens and adults with anxiety, trauma, and grief and loss. Many of the clients I work with are highly sensitive persons (HSPs) and looking for ways to cultivate wellness in their lives. I also frequently work with people in the helping fields who are experiencing burnout and exhaustion, who are ready to explore ways to process vicarious and secondary trauma and prioritize true self-care. I truly love the work I do. I began my practice because I believe that we all have the capacity to grow, heal, and transform, and that we all have insight that we can develop and learn to trust. I also believe that working through our challenges with self-compassion and understanding can help us move from pain and frustration to peace and autonomy. We are all capable of creating meaningful lives of peace. I deeply believe that we all have an innate capacity to heal and that each person is their own best resource and source of wisdom, and that we often need a little help allowing ourselves to access and trust our intuition. We all have many possible selves, and the stories we tell ourselves about who we are, who others are, and how life works can help or hurt our chances at being the self we want to be. I also believe that there must be space in therapy to process the things about life that are hard, painful, exhausting, and often heartbreaking, all while cultivating a gentler, more compassionate, resilient way of being in this world. Therapy allows us the opportunity to develop self-awareness and explore action steps that we can take to improve our wellbeing. I respect the process it takes to discover new things about ourselves and integrate what we have learned into our lives, and I encourage my clients to do so with great care for themselves. I consider it a privilege to be a collaborative partner in the healing and transformation process.

Virtual intensives and process groups in Oregon for people navigating existential overwhelm, relational disconnection, and (re)discovering what actually matters when the world is falling apart. It’s hard to feel connected to yourself and what really matters when the world is on fire. You try to focus on what feels most important to you, but that sometimes feels meaningless or impossible. It is exhausting being on-edge and feeling dissociated from yourself and others all the time! You want to understand yourself more, improve your relationships with others, and experience true meaning and purpose. Most importantly, you just want to feel like you're in control of your life again. As your therapist I combine my training in emotionally focused, interpersonal, and existential-humanistic approaches to support folks navigate issues of identity, existential overwhelm, anxiety and mood disorders, and relational concerns. I create a space where you can explore, navigate, and overcome your distress to feel more authentic in and in control of your life. It turns out living through the apocalypse can be pretty terrifying and overwhelming, but the good news is you do not have to do it alone. I look forward to hearing from folks motivated to explore what is most important to them, and what gets in the way of them pursuing it. I offer virtual individual intensives and group therapy.
