Therapists for college students near Portland State University
Hello, We can start with what is your immediate concern. That is likely to open the possibility of changes within you, that can open new possibilities for satisfaction and broader changes. Our goals will include more satisfying and close relationships for you.
I love supporting people in better understanding themselves. I value a collaborative relationship with clients as well as crafting the therapeutic experience to meet the needs of each individual I work with. I welcome members of the LGBTQIA2S+ community and provide affirming care for folks on the gender spectrum and/or amid gender transition. I have experience treating anxiety disorders, depression, trauma, life transition issues, and relationship concerns (family, partners, social) and have specific training in DBT, CBT, and post-modern models. I am a systemic therapist and will often bring larger systems, identity intersections, and relationships into our conversations.
Feeling foggy or like you're in a dream (in a bad way)? Feeling detached from your body or your joy? At the risk of sounding like an infomercial, I'm passionate about helping clients feel more present, embodied, and connected whether they're experiencing grief, dissociation (depersonalization or derealization), or burn out. I work best with folks who are motivated to put in work inside and outside of session in order to inch closer to change. There is so much to grieve in the world right now but I'll be alongside you to sit in the messy feelings and cheer on your wins. I use experiential (creative) and somatic (body-focused) techniques for additional ways of processing grief, loss, or disconnection. Experientially, we might write, make art, use music, or create a tangible coping tool you can use. Somatically, this might mean grounding exercises, movement, guided visualizations, or just pausing and noticing the body. Your healing process is important and I don’t believe in taking away coping mechanisms that have allowed you to survive until now. Instead, the idea is to explore different options to help you sift through complicated situations or feelings and help you evaluate what's no longer serving you. Reach out if we might be a good fit. I'd love to hear from you!
Hi, I'm Heather Rose, a psychiatric Nurse Practioner. My path into psychiatry was shaped by years of clinical experience working with people during some of the most difficult moments of their lives. I take a warm, collaborative approach with young adults navigating anxiety, depression, ADHD, and much more. My goal is to meet you where you are and work together at a pace that feels right for you. I am glad you are here and considering options for yourself. Often, the hardest part is believing that things can be better. Do you feel out of sync, trapped by overthinking, a perpetual knot in your stomach, or a weight on your chest? Maybe you are persistently under a cloud of exhaustion or the mental strain of regulating your attention. Is it a feeling of being stuck on a treadmill: always in motion, but never arriving at a place of peace? Whether navigating restless anxiety, low mood, pressures of college or playing a sport, let's find a way for you to regain traction and move forward with clarity. As a PMHNP, I offer an active, collaborative space. My approach integrates the basic: sleep, nutrition, and movement, with the options of psychotherapy and medication management. We tailor these tools to help you identify and reach your own specific goals. We will focus on building a foundation for tangible action, relief, and feeling better. In our sessions I provide a steady, informed presence where we can explore your experience at your own pace. My role is to offer the support and tools you need to navigate life with more resilience and ease. If this resonates with you, please reach out to schedule a session via telehealth or my NE Portland office or. I look forward to supporting you.
My work is based on Mindfulness, Buddhist Psychology, and Gestalt Therapy. All are adept approaches to increasing awareness of our embodied experience and discovering more authentic ways of living a fulfilling life. My approach works to help clients develop resiliency, emotional flexibility, and explore the careful balance between acceptance and change. I support clients’ process of deepening into a more compassionate and loving relationship with themselves and the world by accepting who they truly are. Simultaneously, I challenge people to examine and move beyond rigid, habitual beliefs or behaviors and develop more alive, creative, and connective ways of being in the world.
I offer individual therapy for people recovering from unhealthy relationships and interpersonal trauma. I also provide gender affirming therapy and WPATH letters for gender affirming surgeries. I create a supportive space in which you can feel seen, understood, and accepted, and in which your lived experience and your values are centered. I offer in-person therapy sessions in Portland, Oregon, and telehealth sessions throughout California and Oregon. I admire the bravery it takes to begin therapy. For those of us who have been harmed in relationships, it takes time to build trust. Together, we'll decide on a pace and process that feels safe and supportive. Visit flourishauthentically.com for more info and to request a free 15-minute call so you can decide if I'm the best fit for your healing journey. My experience and how I work: My work has been dedicated to serving survivors of unhealthy relationships and interpersonal trauma (e.g. intimate partner violence, sexual assault, community violence, immigration trauma, intergenerational trauma, and systemic and historical oppression). I’ve specialized in supporting people living with HIV/AIDS, complex health issues, chronic pain, and substance use in relationship to trauma. I’ve worked extensively with gender-expansive (Transgender, Gender Nonconforming, Genderqueer, etc.) clients and provided WPATH assessments/letters for gender affirming surgeries. I am a compassionate, experienced, and affirming therapist, working from a feminist and liberatory framework. I identify as a white, queer, cisgender able-bodied woman with lived experience relevant to my work. I think about identity, suffering, and healing in the context of the oppressive systems that impact peoples’ lives (e.g. patriarchy, white supremacy, homophobia, transphobia, racism, xenophobia, fatphobia, ableism, etc.), and understand that healing ourselves in turn benefits our loved ones and communities. I create a supportive space in which you can feel seen, understood, believed, and in which your lived experience and your values are centered. I am aware of the power dynamics that exist in a therapeutic relationship, especially when our identities differ, and welcome this often-avoided issue into the room. No need to perform or edit yourself. This is a chance to show up as your full brave self.

I treat anxiety, depression, grief, and trauma, with specialized experience in helping survivors heal from sexual abuse. I enjoy working with people who are exploring their wants and needs, their role within their family, developing boundaries and effective communication within relationships, and the mind-body connection. I offer a safe and non-judgmental space for people to process challenges they are facing in the present, traumas from the past, and anxieties about the future. I am a licensed art therapist, which can be a great fit for those wanting to process thoughts and feelings using creative means. After working in the mental health field for nearly 15 years, specifically in crisis intervention, I set out on a new path to work with people before life becomes unbearable. Most recently, I served as a high school mental health counselor. Flexibility and openness are two of my core values. Do you know what you value? Understanding what we care about most and what brings meaning to our lives is essential to living with intention and living well. I believe therapy is about exploring these values along with memories, current circumstances, and feelings in order to help the present-self move forward. Too often we drift through our days without asking for the support we need because it can feel as though we are not worthy of that focus. Please know that you are worthy of that focus because once you do, positive change and growth are not only possible, but inevitable. My passion is to center each person I work with and learn how they experience the world around them. My background thus far has been working with youth and adults experiencing anxiety, depression, trauma, suicidal ideation, identity issues, self-harm, and school frustration. I hold a bachelor's degree in Spanish and a masters in social work (MSW) from Portland State University. Outside of my work, I love to run, play video games, and have always been into playing/watching sports. There is no song I wouldn't try to karaoke even though I'm, like, an objectively bad singer.
Hi! I'm Dana. I help clients who struggle with anxiety, shame, perfectionism, or a harsh inner critic to find greater peace, self-compassion and healthier boundaries and relationships. In addition to my education and experience as a counselor, I have a master’s in higher education and 12 years of experience working with college students on college campus, with a focus on supporting international students. I have the background and knowledge to help you feel grounded and equipped to navigate your college experience. I would be honored to walk alongside you as we work together to help you feel less stuck, overwhelmed, and anxious. I want to support you as you gain insight and develop skills that will help you to have better days ahead. You don’t have to do it alone. I’m here to help.
