Therapists for college students near Portland State University
I love working with people who aspire toward self actualization. Sometimes staying emotionally regulated can gets in the way of having a clear understanding and experience in day to day life. Modern culture has a way of throwing us ups and downs, but I have good news: There are ways to obtain equanimity, compassion (for yourself and others) and even joy in the process. In my practice, I won't be trying to "fix" you, rather we will be on a journey together to help you obtain more of the life you want to be living.
In practice for 30+ years, I offer a warm, collaborative approach. We will work together to heal wounds, resolve symptoms and overcome barriers that keep you from living your full potential. Depending on your needs and wishes, our work together can involve learning new skills, exploring past hurts, accessing your inner wisdom, harnessing your creativity to develop more effective life strategies, and all the while deepening your self-understanding. I work with individuals who are 16+ years. While I have a wide ranging practice, I have particular interest and expertise in working with depression, anxiety and stress, young adults, sexual orientation, gender identity, clients with chronic health concerns, life transitions, creative blocks, and family of origin issues.
I enjoy working with folks who are navigating issues of anxiety, depression, ADHD, perfectionism, emotion regulation, grief, stress management, or relationship dynamics & communication skills. Therapy can also be a great place to receive support from a neutral person not already involved in your life, potentially to help develop self-awareness, self-confidence, or explore your future goals & plans. I especially enjoy working with University students who are pursuing their Masters or PhD degrees in Graduate School, though I also work with many Undergrad students adjusting to college life as well. Additionally, I have experience with student athletes & the intersection of mental health with sports performance.
I Specialized in ADHD, Buprenorphine/Suboxone start and management, Bipolar, Major Depression, Generalized Anxiety Disorder, Schizophrenia, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, Panic Attacks, and other mental health disorders. We also provide telehealth services for those who prefer to receive care from the comfort of their own home. Initial section Fee $250, standard Visit $100
I specialize in the intersection of neurodivergence (Autism, ADHD, AuDHD) and LGBTQ+ adult care. If you are struggling with depression, anxiety, stress, identity, life transitions, trauma, or just looking to find your direction in life, I can help. I utilize science-based techniques to help people live according to their values. I offer Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) informed and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and other third wave behavior therapy modalities. I am currently DBT-LBC Certified, a IBCCES Certified Autism Specialist
I specialize in helping adults heal from trauma, manage anxiety, and break free from cycles of perfectionism, self-criticism, and chronic stress. I am particularly drawn to working with women, LGBTQIA2S+ individuals, and healthcare professionals navigating burnout, identity stress, compassion fatigue, and the long-term impact of always having to be “on.” As a queer, neurodivergent therapist, I understand how important it is to have a space where you don’t need to translate your experience, justify your reactions, or perform stability in order to be met with care. My approach is trauma-informed, affirming, and collaborative, drawing primarily from EMDR and ACT.
My top goal in therapy is to create a trusted partnership, built on empathy, honest feedback, and adaptive support. I provide a safe space to explore, understand, and work through difficulties. Together we work to expand insight, hone goals, and enact processes that reduce distress and change unwanted patterns. Clinically, I assess wellbeing using Ecological and Biopsychosocial Model perspectives. My work with clients is rooted in Humanistic and Cognitive-Behavioral models, and integrates strategies drawn from other approaches, including ACT, IFS, and MI therapies. However, my approach varies with each person, based on their unique needs, cultural contexts, and current circumstances. I often help clients with concerns related to anxiety, depression, relationships, focus/performance, existence/spirituality, academic/career development, and general well-being. I also frequently provide support for specific concerns, including identity development (cultural/sexual/gender/etc.), processing grief, resolving trauma, and substance use. All of us go through times when we feel overwhelmed or lost, and it's difficult to work through that alone. When looking for a therapist, consider what qualities (e.g., empathy, structure, logic) might help you most at this point. I'm happy to talk with you by phone about what you're looking for, how I work with clients, and any questions you have.
College is supposed to be when you figure out who you are, which is a strange task to hand someone who's also drowning in problem sets, roommate drama, and a bank account that hits zero the week before rent. If you're queer, trans, neurodivergent, disabled, fat, BIPOC, or some combination, you're doing that figuring-out with fewer road maps and more people who think your existence needs an explanation. At Soma Roots Therapy, we work with students navigating identity, family expectations, body image, burnout, and the specific loneliness of being surrounded by people and still feeling unseen. Our approach pays attention to what's happening in your body, not just your thought spirals, and it starts from the belief that your struggles usually aren't a personal failing — they're a reasonable response to unreasonable systems (capitalism, diet culture, whichever one's currently ruining your week). We're LGBTQIA2S+ affirming, neurodivergent-affirming, and fat-affirming as a baseline, not a specialty. No pronoun explanations required. No convincing us your body is fine as it is. We show up, we listen, and yes, we'll probably crack a joke somewhere in there — healing doesn't have to be humorless, even when it's hard. We see clients by telehealth across Oregon and Washington, so therapy can happen between classes instead of instead of them. I also provide validating support in living with medical concerns and chronic conditions that make life feel difficult. ****************************************************************** Techniques are personalized to you and your treatment plan. Here are my favorites: Sensory Integration, Bilateral Stimulation, Somatic Attunement, and Movement Especially useful for neurodivergence and trauma, these are powerful tools to assist with self-soothing and grounding. Relaxation & Humor I offer coping skills that make therapy fun, while promoting mental and physical health. Psychoeducation Honoring your pace and learning style, I love to provide informative support to help you understand yourself and your experiences better. Writing, Visual & Experiential Explorations We determine which types of processing are most helpful and, if you are open to it, employ a variety of creative methods to facilitate growth. Narrative Therapy My primary theoretical approach, narrative therapy is empowerment-based, offering tools to deconstruct of systems of being that do not service you or your values and goals. Together, we work towards reconstruction of your preferred stories!
I have had multiple careers, including classroom teaching, have been in practice 27 years. I work with adults and with couples. I raised two sons who are now middle-aged adults. I relate to college students very well.
I love working with college students. I worked exclusively with students for 14 years and have been a therapist for 19 years. I really struggled in college myself and enjoy helping students thru this challenging time. Anxiety, motivation, time and stress management are all tough during college as well as how that constant stress effects your relationships and self care and self compassion. Helping out with career and academic direction can be part of our work too. This is also a time that gender identity and sexuality and body image issues can arise. I can help support all sorts of folks (including with neurodiversity and individuals with ADHD and chronic health issues) to stay healthy and regulated during high stress.

I have over two decades of experience providing psychotherapy with a focus on trauma, gender, and culture. Many of my clients identify as people of color, LGBTQIA+, and/or neurodivergent and are coping with discrimination, relationship issues, and/or a history of trauma. I strive to integrate a social justice and anti-bias perspective in all my work. This means that I treat each client as an individual with different needs and do not simply apply the same protocol to everyone. In addition to serving as a therapist, being an instructor at Oregon State University and a former trauma researcher helps me understand how to apply key psychology principles with sensitivity and stay current on new knowledge in the field.

I have experience supporting needs related to: children and youth, young adults, families, life transitions, drug and alcohol issues, trauma, attachment challenges, co-dependency, self-esteem, depression, suicidal ideation, grief, and anxiety.
I specialize in trauma therapy, with extensive experience supporting survivors of sexual violence and other traumatic experiences. If you’ve been through something overwhelming, it can feel like a fog has settled over you, affecting every part of your life. You might find yourself overthinking, being on edge, shutting down, or feeling numb, even when you want to feel present and connected. Many people I work with feel stuck in this space and are unsure how to move forward. Together, we’ll work to understand and process your emotions, thoughts, and past experiences so they no longer hold the same power over you. I use EMDR and other approaches to help you address what’s at the core of your symptoms. Feeling safe and understood is essential to this work. We’ll move at a pace that’s manageable for you, creating a space where you can show up as you are without pressure or judgment. While this is a vulnerable process, it’s also what allows for deep, lasting healing. Therapy can help you relate to yourself with more clarity and compassion, develop new patterns, and move toward the life you want to live. If you’re ready to feel more grounded, connected, and fully yourself—and to feel more in control of your life—I invite you to reach out. We’ll start with a conversation and see if working together feels like a good fit.
