Hi! I’m Irene, and I am happy you are here. If you are neurodivergent woman searching for a therapist, you deserve someone who is non-judgmental and values your uniqueness. Have you been dealing with anxiety, fear, depression or anger? You may be in a partnership with another neurodivergent person, and you struggle with communication, or you may have trouble keeping up with daily life, like taking care of your living space, or doing the laundry. Maybe your children are grown and out of the house, and you are not sure what to do next with your life. All of this may be difficult to navigate. We can work together to make life less challenging. I am passionate about providing a non-judgmental, neuro-affirming therapeutic space for my clients. I have worked in the special education field for years and have collaborated with parents of neurodivergent children. I work with folks who are finding that their life seems to be more difficult than those around them. We can collaborate to support you in a person-centered setting. Counseling is different for each of us, and together we can work to achieve your goals. With my integrative approach, I will meet you where you are in your journey to wellness. We can do this together! Working under the supervision of Colleen Torrey.

Welcome! Therapy can be awkward and uncomfortable to pursue and requires tremendous courage. I have been a social worker for over ten years witnessing the crucial necessities of being seen, heard, and understood. I specialize in individual therapy for adults rooted in psychodynamic, object relations, and trauma focused theories. I pull from Dialectical Behavioral Therapy skills to strengthen regulation and coping skills. Together we will walk through your experiences to heal the pain and shame that keeps you from having compassion and understanding for yourself.

Choosing therapy is a bold step towards positive change. My goal as a therapist is to support you as you move towards personal and relational healing while providing unconditional positive regard, structure for exploration, and nervous system support for staying present with the difficult emotions and re-grounding afterwards. I believe that you make sense and that you are an expert on your own experience. My practice is person-centered and celebrates queer and trans lives, poly and kink relationships, neurodivergent experience, and health at all sizes. I strive to practice cultural humility about experiences, histories, and cultural oppressions that fall outside my own. I use tools from trauma-informed modalities of IFS, EMDR, and Somatic Experiencing. I am open to working with adults, adolescents, and children of families that are willing to commit to family sessions. I enjoy working with people who experience multiple marginalizations and cultural oppressions, artists, writers and activists. Reach out with your questions, current struggles, ideals, and goals to explore if we are the right fit.

My goal is to provide you with a safe & supportive space where you feel comfortable being your authentic self so we can begin the hard work of therapy.
There is only so much we can do on our own. Everyone can benefit from getting another perspective and sometimes family and friends can be a bit too close. If you are struggling with depression, anxiety, grief or loss it may benefit you to reach out. I can work with you to stabilize your relationships, identify professional goals and navigate life transitions intentionally and with hope.
I began my career as a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) later in life, and I have great passion for the work I do with my clients. I have 8 years of experience as a therapist for children/teens, adults, and families. I have worked in out-patient, school-based, in-home, and community settings. For individual and family therapy, I use a client-based, relational approach that focuses on positive communication, mutual respect, and active listening skills. I enjoy collaborating with clients on goals. I have a strong background in trauma and in providing services for at-risk teens and young adults. I offer counseling for mood and personality disorders, grief and loss, separation/divorce and family issues, as well as for medically based diagnoses, such as ADHD, fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue syndrome, and cancer. My style is person-centered and eclectic, drawing from cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), motivational interviewing, and solution-focused interventions. I also enjoy providing group therapy for children, teens, and adults, and I believe that each group is an opportunity for growth, connection, and validation.

I believe that clients are experts in themselves, and the counseling process serves as a vehicle for exploration, understanding, and change. Adversity and negative past experiences are part of all of our stories, but they do not define us. Counseling gives a space to reflect into the past providing an understanding of the influence these experiences have on our lives today. Using clients' insights, strengths and resilience I support and help our clients become the people they wish to be. My favorite part of supporting client's is supporting them in self-discovery and strengthening their sense of self. I strongly believe in providing high quality services to all individuals and affirming the dignity, worth and value of all. My approach as a therapist is a person-centered approach and strength based. I am also trained in CBT and integrate different interventions to meet client needs. I strive to create an open safe space for individuals to be their authentic-self and receive acceptance, kindness, and support. My goal for you is to give you the space you deserve to show the most authentic version of yourself feeling supported and empowered. The therapeutic alliance I believe is a collaborative one because you are the only expert of you. Client's work collaboratively with me to create the goals we will work towards. By the end of treatment, I want clients to have a strengthened sense of self as well as resilience, tools and techniques. I am a recent graduate from Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine earning my Master's in Mental Health Counseling. I am the proud owner of Project Rise Counseling & Advocacy. I am a pre-licensed professional which means I am supervised by a licensed professional Alisa Trout. I am more than happy to answer any questions about how that works (: I strongly believe that all individuals should have access to mental health support thus I offer sliding scale services to overcome financial barriers.
