Therapists for college students near 19122
Our practice uses a relational approach in addressing many concerns facing clients. We are trained to understand the transitional challenges that college students face, as well as family and relational dynamics that may influence how we feel, think and function. Learning to set boundaries to lessen overwhelm, alter high expectations of self, and improve our self worth and identity is an area of consideration in which we can provide guidance and support. Furthermore, we specialize in relationships including family, work, peer and romantic, that can be altered in ways to promote health and increased well being.
Many of the students I work with are navigating a lot internally—stress, anxiety, self-doubt, or feeling unsure about their path. You might find yourself overthinking, putting pressure on yourself to have everything figured out, or struggling in relationships while trying to balance it all. You may look like you’re doing fine on the outside, but feel overwhelmed or stuck underneath. You don’t have to have everything figured out. If you’re open to growing, gaining clarity, and building a stronger relationship with yourself, we’d likely work well together.

I work with patients across the life span and with a broad of psychological problems and I particularly enjoy working with college age students and helping them to negotiate the transitions to college life.I also have training and expertise in working with patients with eating disorders. I work with patients in a longer term frame and focus on developing a good patient-therapist working relationship to create a therapeutic space so the the person can develop an understanding of the meaning of their difficulties and begin to find pathways to alleviate those difficulties. We all have struggles. Despite our best efforts and intentions, those struggles can leave us feeling overwhelmed and we don't even understand how we got here. I want to help you explore and address your concerns, by encouraging a sense of curiosity and humor, when appropriate. Rather than approach our troubles with trepidation, why not approach them with interest – be curious about ourselves, how we came to be who/how we are, how the things we have tried have worked/not worked or even made things worse and what other options may exist that we have not yet thought of or tried? Learning to be curious about ourselves and the challenges we face, and to find humor and grace along the way, allows us to be less judgmental and feel less ashamed of ourselves and our struggles, so we can build a life we want on more solid ground. I’m a psychologist with 20 years of experience working with college-aged (traditional and non) individuals. I have a very collaborative approach – you are the expert on you. I incorporate a number of therapy approaches, using what I believe will best fit you and the difficulties discussed. I know how difficult it is to seek help and it's my job to make this easier by offering a warm, empathetic and safe place to explore and address your concerns. If you are ready to feel better about yourself and explore how you might meaningfully address the challenges in your life, I am excited to join you in this process!

I worked in university counseling centers for over 10 years before transitioning to full-time private practice, and really enjoy working with undergraduate and graduate students. College and graduate school is often a time to better understand and define who you are and what does and does not work for you and for promoting your wellbeing. As a psychologist, I work to help clients understand themselves better in the unique context and experiences of their own lives so as to figure out what each individual needs to be well, which may be very different than what you think you should need to be well. I also work to help clients not only manage their symptoms and distress, but also understand the root causes of their symptoms and distress. I believe that this deeper understanding can often lead to transformative healing.
I love what I do, and I know why I do it. Since 2007 my focus has been coming along side of people and assisting them with challenges they face in life to become the most authentic and genuine person they were meant to be. In my own journey I've come to accept and appreciate the gifts I've been given, even if they're seemingly unrelated. I love my work as a therapist and I will always be passionate about performing music. How the two coexist within me is the journey I'm on. My focus has been in becoming a better therapist each day ... but I also know I'll never stop playing guitar and performing music, it's part of who I am. Book with me now by clicking on my Headway website. For insurances I work through Headway. My private practice is "out of pocket" at $50/session making therapy affordable to those without insurance or high copay. I provide a statement so you can be reimbursed. So finances are not an obstacle we can find an affordable rate for you. I am very passionate about understanding and helping people with the effects of trauma, depression, anxiety, anger, distressful emotions, and broken relationships. This has lead me into further study on how to offer a Trauma-Informed Therapy Approach. One therapy method is EMDR therapy, but other options can be utilized based on your needs. We can talk soon.

I strive not to be one of "those" clinicians who wear a fake grin while holding a clipboard. Life is not that simple, and it doesn't need to be approached that way. I firmly embrace a person-centered approach, which affords me the freedom to explore different perspectives. If you are contemplating seeing someone, I encourage you to take the first step towards bettering yourself and understanding your own emotional depth. I offer free 15-minute screenings to consult and see if I would be a good fit for you; otherwise, I am more than happy to help you find a provider that has the most potential impact for your needs.

I’m here to support you in figuring out what to do with all the insight you already have. I primarily serve folks who are navigating chronic pain/illness, disability, health anxiety, medical trauma and gaslighting, gender dysphoria, neurodivergence, and complex PTSD. I use feminist and narrative methods to translate awareness into actionable change. I also practice Somatic & Attachment Focused EMDR and Pain Reprocessing Therapy (PRT). My integrative approach is insight, depth, and systems oriented, and I’m influenced by liberation psychology, contemplative and existential philosophy, and harm reduction principles. My sessions are pragmatic and easygoing, but I am direct and don’t shy away from difficult topics. I love stories, metaphors, and riddles, and I like to incorporate humor for levity. I use books, podcasts, art, music, writing, and somatics to supplement my work. Keep an eye out for intensives and ketamine-assisted therapy options in the near future too!
