Therapists for college students near Temple University
My experience includes 20+ years as at Carnegie Mellon University's Counseling Center and 6 years at Persad Center. The work I do focuses on helping folks understand themselves and feel understood. Working together, we change help you work with difficult emotions, change patterns that cause distress, and nurture a meaningful life, as you define it.
Eating disorders rarely develop in isolation. Often, they begin as brilliant adaptations; ways of coping with overwhelming emotions, painful relationships, unmet attachment needs, or experiences that have felt difficult to carry alone. While these patterns may have once helped you survive, they can eventually leave you feeling disconnected from yourself, your body, and your relationships. Healing begins with understanding your story before trying to change it and honoring the ways you've learned to survive while creating space for new experiences of safety, connection, and self-compassion. My approach is person-centered, relational, and attachment-focused. I am an Inclusive Eating Disorder Specialist (IEDS) and am fully trained in EMDR. I integrate EMDR, ACT, DBT, RO-DBT, parts work, and psychodynamic therapy into my work with clients. My practice is anti-diet and grounded in Health at Every Size (HAES). I believe healing happens in relationship. The therapeutic relationship can become a place where new experiences of safety, trust, and connection begin to take root. Whether you're struggling with restriction, binge eating, purging, body image distress, or the lasting impact of trauma, you don’t have to navigate recovery alone.

People come to therapy for many different reasons, but, at the core, they are looking for understanding, relief, or growth. Maybe you’re trying to understand why you feel the way you do, or you find yourself caught in the same difficult thoughts again and again. Perhaps you’ve noticed patterns of behavior that seem to work against your own well-being. You might be facing a life transition—chosen or not—and are feeling anxious about what’s next. Or maybe you just feel stuck. Therapy offers a space to slow down and make sense of what’s happening. Together, we can clarify your current experience, explore how you got here, and begin to shape a healthier, more fulfilling path forward.

As a licensed psychologist, I work with adults and adolescents seeking personal growth and change through psychotherapy. Areas of focus within my practice include anxiety, depression, college student mental health, graduate student mental health, career planning and change, partner relationship concerns, grief and loss, life-long and acquired disability issues, and adjustment to life changes such as medical diagnoses, traumatic brain injury, relationship loss, school transition and death of a loved one. I work extensively with undergraduate students with academic and mental health concerns. Academic stress, choice of major, career direction and planning, time management, motivational difficulties, underachievement, disability adaptation needs, and relationship/family issues are common concerns brought to therapy by college-aged students. Having a safe, reliable space to explore concerns and develop solutions can enhance well-being, satisfaction and success. The academic and research responsibilities of graduate programs can be challenging to juggle. In addition, graduates school can often be an isolating time for many students. Motivation, goal clarification, stress management, school-life balance, relationships, financial concerns, and post-graduate career exploration and planning are among the many challenges graduate students face in their academic lives. Work with graduate students is an integral part of my practice.

Hi, I’m Shannon Mick, NCC, LPC, founder of Finish Stronger Counseling. I provide compassionate virtual therapy to adults across Pennsylvania who are ready to overcome anxiety, trauma, and eating disorders—especially endurance runners and athletes who want to feel strong in both mind and body. As a semi-professional ultramarathoner and assistant running coach myself, I truly understand the unique mental challenges that come with the sport: DNFs, DNSs, injury recovery, training balance, body image, and the relentless drive to push your limits. My holistic, movement-informed approach blends evidence-based therapy with real-world strategies that honor the mind-body connection athletes live every day. Using CBT, DBT, and ACT, I help clients address root causes, build resilience, and develop the mindset tools they need to cross every finish line—on the trail and in life. Whether you’re navigating performance anxiety, rebuilding after a setback, or simply wanting to feel like yourself again, my goal is simple: help you finish stronger. I offer a free 10–15 minute phone consult so we can see if we’re the right fit. An email is okay, too. Let’s get started—your next strong chapter is waiting. What inspires you? What scares you? What do you sometimes avoid thinking or feeling? I provide supportive and challenging psychotherapy for clients interested in identifying their complex narratives. We will search for the patterns and themes that are creating barriers to healing, and we will locate those that enhance your ability to live authentically. My social worker lense leads me to work with you to name and examine the societal systems most impacting you. In psychotherapy, we will work to help discover your truths as a way to live more authentically, and as a result, feel less burdened by anxiety, depression, fear, or uncertainty. I practice with a non-judgmental stance, deep compassion, and reverence for patiently letting our work unfold as trust develops. My social justice values are reflected in the therapeutic space that we co-create as I work to validate intersecting identities, continue my commitment to anti-racist work, and to practice queer-affirming and neurodivergent-affirming care. I work comfortably with a wide range of clients due to my experience in schools, community mental health, and as a group facilitator.
