My goal is to provide you with the support and guidance you need to promote personal growth, uncover your strengths, and make the behavioral changes you're looking for. Whether it's addressing behavioral concerns, life transitions, navigating relationship conflicts, or improving communication, I'm here to help. I have extensive experience working with depression, anxiety, PTSD, ADHD, and grief and loss.
I work with adults who may feel overwhelmed by their thoughts and emotions—whether that includes anxiety, depression, negative self-talk, or other mental health challenges. My goal is to support you in achieving your mental health goals and to empower you to take an active role in your healing journey. I take a client-centered approach, placing your unique needs and mental health goals at the heart of our work together. I strive to create a supportive, non-judgmental environment where therapy feels like a safe and welcoming space. I value open communication and will listen with care and intention, while gently supporting you in navigating uncomfortable emotions and life’s challenges.
My therapy practice gives you the unique opportunity to take the space to be heard and discover what you really want. I specialize in helping clients work through betrayals and relationship issues. During our time together you will build resiliency skills, set healthier boundaries, and manage stress more effectively to led to a happier life!
I work with children, teens, and adults, using a specialized blend of behavior principles into my therapeutic practice. I started my career in special education as a behaviorist for children with autism and later worked as a school counselor for middle school students in East Los Angeles. I earned my BCBA in 2020 and my LCSW in 2021, allowing me to integrate behavior management techniques into my mental health practice. I love being able to work with clients from both a behavioral and mental health perspective, allowing space for big behaviors and big feelings to coexist and be processed together. I'm here to help! I am directive yet empathetic and allow clients to tailor their therapeutic plan to meet their needs and goals. Please don't hesitate to reach out for a consultation to see if we might be a good fit. Email for clinical supervision rates (individual, triadic, group).
I have been described by clients and colleagues as non-judgmental, warm (but direct), validating, and compassionate - I'd like to think that's true, but who am I to say? In any case, my hope is to help people develop self-acceptance versus self-loathing, practice self-compassion versus self-criticism, heal past wounds or trauma that continue to cause pain today, and create a purpose-driven life built around values they care about. In my personal and professional experience, the more we can accept ourselves and our "flaws", the freer we are to make meaningful changes in our lives. I work with adults, couples, and sometimes groups. I work with all types of issues, but my specialties include adult children of narcissistic and/or abusive parents, trauma-related disorders, couples therapy, men and masculinity, managing anger, self compassion/acceptance, depression/anxiety, substance use/addiction, and cultural issues (family conflict, intergenerational trauma, issues of identity, etc.). Having been on the other side, I know it's sometimes hard to know what you need, so I offer free phone consultations to help get you started on your path. My website also has resources for self-help - feel free to browse through that as well. And I usually respond quicker to email, so please feel free to message me anytime and we can schedule a time to chat!
Our clients come from all walks of life, but tend to have one thing in common when they reach out to set up an initial appointment: they’ve realized they want more out of life. More joy, more freedom, greater emotional and relational health – in short, a more abundant life. In your first few sessions with us, it’s typical to breathe a sigh of relief – as you realize that there’s finally a space where you can be completely, authentically yourself. We start by processing your story – where you’ve been, where you are now, where you want to be. Stephen Covey writes that “to touch the soul of another human being is to walk on holy ground.” Being invited to be a witness to your story – in all the pains and triumphs and tragedies and victories – this is not an honor I take lightly. As our work together progresses, we unpack what hasn’t been working – self-defeating beliefs, unprocessed events and emotions, stale relational patterns… and we explore and process and practice new ways of being. Over time, the “ah ha” moments start to add up into the “I can’t believe how far I’ve come” moments as we reflect on your journey toward healing and abundance.

Why This Might Be Right for You If you’re a student looking for a compassionate professional who understands the unique pressures of campus life, we might be a great fit. I specialize in deep, long-term therapy for people who want to better understand themselves, their relationships and the world around them. We all create patterns and parts of ourselves to survive as best we can in an unpredictable world. One of the most enriching endeavors to embark on is an explorations of ourselves in a deep and intentional way. It can be transcendental to work with someone to unravel behaviors and unconscious patterns and to begin to discover our essential selves.
I have had the privilege to journey with young adults through major life transitions, while serving in university counseling centers for the past 12 years. I understand the effort it takes to manage academic pressures, navigate social relationships, strive for work-life balance, while trying to get some sleep! I can help you get unstuck from perfectionism and cognitive inflexibility through the practice of radical acceptance, self-compassion and resilience.

I work with people in transition or who are preparing for change. Artists, actors and writers. Those in bereavement. Or who are living with a catastrophic health-related diagnosis, recent or of long duration. Caregivers. Mental health interns who need to explore their own issues in order to practice mindfully. Folks who are using substances more than they want. People who want to decrease their distress but who also have a curiosity about its sources. People who want to talk with someone about the most important thing in the world, perhaps to discover what that is. My specialty is the intuitive analysis of what is most important to you. My experience has shown me that we carry within us the answers we're looking for. My skill is in eliciting these answers and reflecting them back to you so you recognize them. I've been trained in Depth psychology, Narrative psychology and Cognitive Behavior therapy, in dream analysis and evidence-based practices like Seeking Safety. In addition to private practice I've directed multiple community mental health and recovery programs, as well as provided training and clinical supervision to new therapists.
My name is David Serbin. I'm a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT #147386) and Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC #15666). Through therapy, I work with clients to help them see the positive storylines in their lives. I help make counseling fun for clients through narrative building, developing strategies for challenging negative self-talk, self-exploration of strengths, and games, among other ways. I believe that each client has the main ingredient for success in therapy: hope. I love working with young adults who are trying to find out who they are. My clients are motivated and driven, yet searching for deeper meaning and purpose in their lives. They often feel they have unmet needs or goals they want to achieve but have yet to accomplish. In our first session, we'll start with introductions, then dive into the challenges you're facing and hopes for our work together. Having worked with individuals and couples over the past 5 years, I've been able to offer compassion to people who have been in environments where they could not be open about their mental health or only experienced tough love. I strive to create an environment where you will feel safe to be your true self. I often assign homework between sessions. This may include worksheets or journaling exercises. Contact me if you are interested in booking a consult or therapy session and I will do my best to respond within a few hours.

College is a time of growth, change, and sometimes a lot of pressure. If you’re feeling depressed, anxious, stuck, overwhelmed, or just not like yourself, therapy can help you create space to reflect, reset, and move forward with intention. We begin by building trust, so you can explore what’s coming up for you and build tools to feel more grounded and confident.
About My Practice College can be an exciting time, but it can also bring a lot of pressure - academically, socially, personally, and emotionally. You may be doing well on the outside while feeling overwhelmed, anxious, disconnected, or unsure of what comes next. I’m a licensed psychotherapist who works with young adults navigating stress, anxiety, relationships, self-confidence, transitions, and the pressure to succeed. My approach combines psychotherapy, emotional intelligence, mindfulness, and neuroscience-informed strategies to help you better understand yourself and create meaningful change. Therapy with me is collaborative, practical, and judgment-free. You don’t have to wait until things feel unmanageable to reach out. Whether you're struggling with a specific challenge or simply know that something needs to shift, therapy can be a space to slow down, gain perspective, and figure out what you need. My goal is to help you feel more grounded, emotionally resilient, and able to move through college and into adulthood in a way that feels genuinely like your own.
College can feel like a never-ending marathon of stress, anxiety, self-doubt and no one hands you an instruction manual on how to cope. My sessions are a safe space to be honest, process what’s weighing you down, and learn real strategies to manage your mental health and feel more like yourself. My approach: It’s all about meeting you where you’re at and helping you find some breathing room in the chaos. We’re not here to fix everything overnight, but to give you the tools to navigate life with more ease, more control, and more clarity. We’ll dive into the tough stuff whether it’s ADHD, trauma, anxiety, relationships, intimacy, or addiction and work through it together, at your pace. My goal is to help you connect with yourself, your emotions, and your relationships in a way that’s empowering, freeing, and totally real. No judgment. Just you, your process, and a plan to get you to where you want to be. I’m here to help you sort through the noise and rediscover the parts of you that bring you peace and fulfillment. So, what can you expect to take away from sessions with me: First off, you’ll get a safe, judgment free space to work through whatever’s on your mind.
