“The real warriors in this world are the ones that see the details of another’s soul…they are the sensitive souls that understand that before they could be a light they first had to feel the burn.” -Shannon L. Adler. I too, identify as one of those sensitive souls (HSP), and am excited about working alongside other real warriors in an often insensitive world. As a fellow adoptee as well, I can relate with those who may have experienced this grief as well, and the trauma often surrounding that. Through Brainspotting, Nuerofeedback, CBT, and some integrated approaches, I’m excited to begin working at this practice and help others through these various modalities. Even if you don’t identify as a HSP, I’d love to work with you and help you through whatever difficulties you may be experiencing. I’m most passionate about nature and the outdoors, so aside from offering normal in office therapy, will be offering both virtual sessions, as well as walk and talk therapy. Nuerodivergents, and those with sensitive nervous systems are amongst populations I love working with.
I am a Licensed Professional Counselor Candidate (LPCC) and a graduate of CU Denver’s Master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling program. I am passionate about working with newcomers as well as anyone experiencing life transitions, trauma and post-traumatic stress, anxiety, depression, and religious trauma. I am a member of the Green Cross Academy of Traumatology and a certified Compassion Fatigue Educator, Compassion Fatigue Practitioner, and Field Traumatologist. In previous lives, I have worked with college students in South Asia, in adult ESL and refugee resettlement, and in a working windmill in my hometown of Holland, Michigan.
Transitions, even positive ones, often bring up feelings of being out of control. We are more likely to turn on auto pilot and rely on behaviors that don't really promote our own wellbeing. I really enjoy working with folks navigating these stages of life and truly finding peace in riding the waves of life. I have specialized training in disordered eating, anxiety and trauma. I utilize EMDR, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy and Dialectical Behavioral therapy most often in my practice. The most important thing for me is for my client to feel connected and safe exploring their relationship with emotions within the therapeutic relationship. Whether you are totally new to therapy or are just coming back, I meet all my clients wherever they are. You don't need to be ready to make changes to start the process!
College should be about growth, not just survival. If you're struggling with unpredictable mood swings, overwhelming worry, lots of sadness, or using substances to cope, or climate anxiety, I'm here for you. I work best with students who experience intense emotional ups and downs, find themselves caught in cycles of productivity followed by inability to function, or use alcohol or other substances to manage difficult feelings and thoughts, or those who are preoccupied with climate-related grief or anxiety. I offer a space where you don't need to hide your challenges or pretend to have it all together. We'll focus on getting to know each other, creating a safe space to open up, and increasing coping strategies, such as recognizing early warning signs, building supportive routines, navigating academic pressures, developing genuine connections without relying on substances, and handling the climate crisis with more ease. Whether you're facing mood swings, anxiety, depression, substance use challenges, climate distress, or all of these, there's a path forward. Reach out today to take the first step towards change, growth and stability.
Life sometimes places us in situations that we feel we may not be able to handle alone. As your therapist it would be my honor to join you in navigating the challenges you face. I see each client as a whole person rather than as a collection of symptoms and work with you to understand how you got to where you are and how to get to where you’d like to be. I specialize in working with LGBTQIA+ related issues, Anxiety, OCD, GAD, Agoraphobia, Panic Disorder, ADHD, ASD, and Depression. I am also currently accepting clients in search of Pre-Surgical Evaluation for Gender Affirming Surgery (GAS) Regardless of your presenting concern, I approach therapy as a collaboration that allows us each to share our expertise; mine in psychological theory and your expertise in yourself and your unique needs. This philosophy shapes our therapy space as we determine what type of environment works best for you, whether that be more structured or free-flowing. Sessions may range from activities that target specific behaviors to more broad discussions about your overall life and sense of self to help us better understand your experience. It is my firmest belief that everyone is capable of change. My role is to help you explore what that looks like for you and to help you to live a happier and more fulfilled life.
You might feel torn between what you want and what everyone else expects from you. You try to make the right choices, keep the peace, and be there for everyone, yet you are left feeling anxious, guilty, and unsure of your own needs. I work with women who feel stuck in relationships, career decisions, and life transitions, and who want to understand themselves more clearly and set healthier boundaries. My work is grounded in CBT, Mindfulness, EMDR, strengths-based therapy, and Trauma Informed care. I pay close attention to the mind-body connection because it often reveals what words cannot. Our goal is to help you feel more like yourself, more confident in your decisions, and more connected to what you truly want. I show up with honesty, compassion, and a little humor. I will support you, challenge you, and call out the patterns that keep showing up so you can stay focused on what matters to you. Are you your own worst critic? You are the first one to point out your faults, and a part of you continues to feel like you’re not doing enough. Do you put the needs of others before your own - feeling that sick-to-your-stomach guilt when saying “no”? Do you find yourself escaping in work, hobbies, and relationships to avoid sitting with your thoughts and feelings? If these feel familiar, I am with you, and I would love to be a support for you. Let’s quiet that inner critic that can be so very loud, and make space for a voice with a bit more kindness. Let's work together towards more self-trust, self-compassion and self-esteem. I take a very relational approach to therapy. I want our time to feel like an exhale - a space where you can show up as you are, share openly, & feel understood. I enjoy bringing my personality into the space with humor and shared interests. Clients who work with me share that I am warm, thoughtful and compassionate, while also creating a space for growth. If you are interested in working together, please reach out for a free consultation. Don't see your concern listed in my profile? Let's chat and explore whether we would be a good match in working together.
Do you struggle with excessive worrying? Do you find yourself avoiding certain situations out of fear or nervousness? Do certain situations trigger you emotionally? Are you always striving to be the very best academically while being hard on yourself if you don't measure up to your own expectations? If any of these scenarios sound familiar to you, I can help. I have over 12 years experience working with people who experience issues related to Anxiety and Trauma. I also specialize in helping people overcome Perfectionism and other issues related to Over-Achieving. I utilize cutting edge, evidence based therapies including EMDR, Mindfulness and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy to help people overcome their challenges. When I work with people I try to see the world through their eyes while also providing new perspectives. I help people understand the origins of their problems while helping them learn new skills to manage symptoms. I often utilize Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) to help people resolve trauma and anxiety. This cutting edge therapy can alleviate symptoms more quickly and thoroughly than talk therapy alone. I also love working with college students! I provide both in person and tele-therapy.
