Getting started can be overwhelming. My goal is to help you feel as comfortable as possible so we can go at your pace. I specialize in working with clients with anxiety, ADHD, trauma, and addiction. Many of my clients have tried to cope with difficult life changes by pushing their feelings away or finding short-term coping mechanisms that serve as a distraction. My role is to help people listen to and manage their emotions without feeling overwhelmed or ruled by them. Being personally in recovery from alcohol helps me understand and empathize with what you’re going through because I’ve probably been there too. I like to break down clinical approaches to collaboratively determine the best fit for each person’s unique goals. I incorporate elements of neurobiology, cognitive behavioral therapy, and schema work to help people better understand themselves and make meaningful changes in their lives. If you're not sure what you're looking for yet, that's okay! Feel free to reach out to set up an introductory phone call to see if we're a good fit.

Matthew serves as a companion to those who desire to experience healing, growth, and transformation in their pursuit of the full human experience. He works to offer a space of mutual, compassionate, and empathetic listening to the story your life is telling. Matthew believes that the opportunity to work with you is a sacred privilege, and is committed to discovering a shared process in therapy that honors who you are, your background, and your future path. Practicing therapy with Matthew may include focusing on developing tools and practices to help manage emotions and thoughts, support in healing from past experiences, assistance developing healthier behavioral patterns, and/or establishing new values. However, there is not one therapeutic approach that fits all, which is why he works closely with you to identify your own needs and goals. Matthew is experienced primarily in individual work with adolescents and adults from all backgrounds and genders, in areas related to depression, anxiety, life transitions, relationship issues, interpersonal conflict, identity exploration, finding belonging, discovering purpose, grief/loss, and religious and spiritual questions [and related trauma]. He is a Certified Advanced Grief Counseling Specialist. Matthew graduated with a Masters in Social Work from Grand Valley State University in 2024. He is also a graduate of Kuyper College [BS], Cornerstone Theological Seminary [MA], and the Living School for Action and Contemplation. His experience living internationally and attending two universities in multi-cultural and inter-religious environments has deeply shaped how he engages individuals from a diversity of circumstances and backgrounds. Matthew’s professional and academic emphasis on restorative justice practices, as well as the unique cognitive, developmental, and mental health needs of people of all ages has deepened his ability to foster effective therapeutic environments and meaningful relationships with clients. Matthew believes that our growth as people cannot be manufactured or controlled, and is therefore something we can only cooperate with and bear witness to. For many, the journey and practice of our work together becomes an outcome in itself. While Matthew is a generalist when it comes to theoretical orientation, he naturally integrates person-centered, narrative, existential, humanist, mindfulness, and acceptance and commitment approaches.

Welcome! I'm so glad you're here. My name is Bethany and I use the pronouns she/her. Counseling is a big step; I want to help you find a way to live more authentically the life you want and help you step into your power. We are all unique and have our own desires and goals. As your counselor, it is not my job to tell you what to do. I am here to help you through the process, provide tools, and build a relationship that supports you as an individual. I think it is most important to meet my clients where they're at and it is likely no one counseling style will fit perfectly. I have experience providing CBT, DBT, TF-CBT, and solution focused therapy. However, while some aspects of these therapy styles may be present, it is more important to provide a safe supportive environment to learn and grow. I firmly believe that counseling should be a judgement free zone and I offer unconditional positive regard as a cornerstone of my counseling style. My background is in working with youth who have experienced trauma. I offer queer and trans affirming therapy and advocacy.

Are you someone who struggles with anxiety, adjusting to college, self-esteem issues, relationship problems, or just need support during a difficult time? My goal is to meet you where you are and help you move beyond any limiting beliefs and behaviors that have kept you from being the best version of yourself. Your issues cannot be solved on the same level of thinking in which they were created. I believe you are an expert of yourself and you will have opportunities to see yourself past your internal doubts, fears, worries, and insecurities, in a safe, confidential and judgement free space.

I have worked with clients from many different backgrounds across the lifespan who are suffering, lost, or just looking for a place to talk. Most commonly, I have worked with people who are struggling with anxiety, depression, OCD, family struggles, relationship stress, and life transitions. As a therapist, I take an approach that is individualized and client-centered. I develop a treatment plan collaboratively with my clients based on their expertise of their own lives. I draw my interventions from behavioral approaches and frequently incorporate self-compassion work with clients. Through my undergraduate and graduate studies, I learned a lot about human behavior. Through my clinical experience and in my own journey, I learned a lot about healing. I am so grateful to serve others through this work every day.

A former supervisor of mine used to say, “nothing changes until it changes.” I’m here to help you take that first step. As a therapist, I know that few things are as important to the process of therapy as the working relationship between the client and their therapist. This is why I approach every session and every client with empathy, warmth, and unconditional positive regard. I strive to create a therapeutic space that is safe and non-judgmental – where you are the expert of your own experience, where you feel validated at the intersection of your various identities, and where you feel understood as a whole person. I always maintain a client-centered and strengths-based approach to help you become the ideal version of yourself. I want to build your trust in me so that I can support you through difficult and painful times. In a world that stigmatizes mental health challenges, I seek to normalize, validate, and educate. I graduated with my MSW from the University of Michigan in 2022, where I worked as a therapist at the University’s counseling center, providing therapy to students. Prior to that, I gained case management experience working with adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. I have experience working with individuals of various nationalities; cultural, racial, and ethnic backgrounds; religious groups; gender identities; sexual orientations; and more! I also have worked with clients experiencing a range of mental health challenges and diagnoses, including depression, anxiety disorders, trauma, ADHD, adjustment challenges, sexuality and gender identity concerns, identity development, and substance use.

I was a psychiatrist prior to immigrating to the United States in 2001. I currently work as rehabilitation counselor, case manager for people with disabilities and also work as a mental health counselor independently. I am a good listener and passionate about each individual's life journey, self-identity, acculturation, relationship and career path. When we sit down to listen, learn and share different perspectives, we unlock entirely new ways of seeing ourselves. Stress never goes away, but we can adjust how to react toward stress, build resilience for ourselves and healthy relationships with others.

***I am currently accepting new clients to begin therapy on or after 8/10/26*** I strive to create a warm, collaborative, & accountable space in the therapy room. I believe in showing up as authentically as possible so YOU can feel comfortable expressing & exploring your full self. I’ve worked for 7 years with college students, young & older adults who are navigating life’s next steps, whatever those may be. I particularly enjoy helping those who consider themselves overachievers or intellectualizers to slow down & release the stress & anxiety they’ve been carrying around for so long. With me, this often looks like exploring early life experiences that may still be impacting you today. I’ve worked primarily with queer-identified clients from various backgrounds & consider myself radically pro-transgender. Whether you want to explore identity, or you just need a safe place where you don’t need to teach someone about your identities, you can find that here. Please don’t hesitate to email me or call our office! I’m happy to schedule a free 15-minute consultation video or phone call. I do not utilize AI in any part of my treatment or documentation process. As a doctoral temporary limited licensed psychologist, I practice under the supervision of Dr. Julie Meredith Davis, a fully licensed psychologist.

College can feel overwhelming when you are managing anxiety, ADHD, burnout, and constant pressure to keep up. I work with college students who feel stressed, overextended, or unsure of their direction. Many are balancing school, relationships, family expectations, and mental health at the same time. Therapy focuses on understanding patterns, building practical coping skills, and improving daily functioning so life feels more manageable and less overwhelming.
