Hey there, I'm really glad you're here. Let me tell you a bit about why therapy is so meaningful to me. I began my own journey into therapy when I was younger, facing similar struggles to what you might be experiencing now. It wasn't easy, but therapy became my light during those tough times. It showed me that even in the midst of darkness, there's hope and room for joy. Now, I'm here to offer you that same support and guidance. If you're ready to take that step, I'm here to walk alongside you, helping you find the tools you need to feel better. I work with people ages 18 and up who are dealing with challenges such as anxiety and depression. Maybe you're struggling with relentless panic attacks, or perhaps it's the constant weight of worry and uncertainty. Whatever it is, please know that you're not alone. I'm here to listen, to understand, and to help you reclaim your life, step by step. Here's what you can expect from our time together: a safe, judgment-free space where you can share your story and explore your emotions. It's about building trust and working together towards your goals. From learning relaxation techniques to finding ways to silence negative thoughts, we'll tackle things at your pace. I will assign homework, teach you tools, tips, and skills. My goal is to empower you.Throughout our therapeutic journey, you can expect a professional and empathetic approach grounded in evidence-based techniques. You're invited to a confidential and non-judgmental environment where you can freely explore your emotions and experiences. From cultivating relaxation practices to challenging negative thought patterns, I am committed to equipping you with the tools and insights to heal.

Dr. Del Rio has worked in the mental health field for 30 years, across a variety of settings, including inpatient care, community mental health, assessment and crisis intervention, outpatient clinics, and private practice. She specializes in the treatment of anxiety, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), personality disorders, trauma, and relationships. She is trained in Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Solution Focused Brief Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Sex Therapy and Sexual Health, and Crisis Incident Stress Management. She also serves in the role of clinical supervisor to help meet the educational needs of graduate students from MSU and the University of Michigan. Dr. Del Rio's approach to treatment involves a biopsychosocial and person-centered perspective. She works collaboratively with her clients, examining the person and their environment. Dawn will stay the course with her clients while simultaneously recognizing their need to be accountable, engaged, and present during the therapeutic process. She adopts a nonjudgmental stance while concurrently addressing life-interfering behaviors and the need for healthy change. She actively seeks to acknowledge her clients' strengths, explore solutions, identify constructive areas of control, and teach skills to improve her clients' functioning and quality of life.

College can be an exciting time, but it also comes with challenges—academic stress, big life transitions, relationship struggles, and pressure to figure out the future. Many students I work with feel overwhelmed, stuck, or uncertain about how to manage their emotions and responsibilities. Some struggle with anxiety that makes it hard to focus, depression that drains their motivation, or past experiences that continue to impact their daily life. If this sounds familiar, you’re not alone—and you don’t have to figure it all out by yourself. I specialize in helping young adults work through anxiety, depression, and trauma using an integrative, practical approach. Together, we’ll explore what’s holding you back, develop strategies to help you feel more in control, and work toward a life that feels more balanced and fulfilling. My goal is to create a supportive, judgment-free space where you can be yourself, gain clarity, and build confidence in your ability to navigate life’s challenges.

After starting a career in higher education, I realized that I wanted more opportunities to spend time with students 1:1 and support them through all of the life changes that occur throughout college: deciding on a major, finding new friends, separating from family, changing majors, figuring out how to adult, starting a career, excelling in classes that only become more rigorous, and maybe changing majors again. All of this in addition to finding time for yourself becomes quite difficult! As a psychotherapist, I work with students experiencing depression and anxiety as they navigate the challenges and stressors that come with being in college. Many have also had difficult or traumatic experiences while growing up, and are ready to figure out how to talk about them. Through weekly appointments, we'll build a therapeutic relationship grounded in trust, and quickly develop an understanding of your goals for therapy. For some, this will mean our work together is brief. For others, we'll settle into a long-term working relationship that will see you through the ups and downs over the next few years. I primarily use a psychodynamic approach in therapy, which means we'll explore your inner thoughts and feelings to understand how they affect your behaviors and relationships. I find that this approach helps you gain a deeper understanding of yourself, including how you might get in your own way from time to time and what you might want to do differently. Always, the goal is to support you as you (re)discover your strengths and learn to accept yourself as human, making both life and college a little easier to navigate moving forward. Please note: I'm licensed to see individuals in Florida, Illinois, and Michigan.

I work with a wide range of clients that have had ongoing struggles with depression, anxiety, and borderline personality disorder. I worked at a health clinic for a few years focusing on clients with postpartum depression, anxiety, and OCD. I offer a warm and inviting environment where you can share your struggles and traumas. My goal is to help make connections on why you may behave the way you do and then focus on helping you with change. In life we are always going through changes and transitions and everyone deserves to have a space to learn, grow, and heal.
