As a therapist in practice over 12 years, I specialize in working with LGBTQ+ People of Color communities coping with depression, anxiety, relationship stress, racial identity, and spirituality/faith issues. I have have extensive experience working with Asian/ Asian-Americans and other communities of color, immigrants, Millennials, Gen Z, and college students. We all need spaces in our lives to be seen and heard. There are times, however, when it can be hard to find those spaces of acceptance, non-judgment, and problem solving. I will work with you to explore and find solutions to the challenges that come with navigating the realities of our complicated lives. My approach in therapy focuses on each person's unique stories, strengths, and resilience, from a space of empathy, and concrete tools to move forward. I believe that therapy is a collaborative process that balances spaces of acceptance with change, which is based in cognitive & dialectical behavioral therapy (CBT) and (DBT). I am committed to diverse communities and enjoy working with clients of all racial backgrounds, sexual orientations and gender identities. I believe that therapy should be accessible and affordable, which is why I take insurance including Aetna, Oscar, Oxford and United. Please contact me for more information about using your insurance for therapy.

The college years are a time of self discovery and challenge. Opening yourself up to new people, experiences and ways of thinking can be both invigorating and daunting. Being away from the known can feel overwhelming. What I can offer you is an opportunity to explore underlying patterns of thought, behavior and communication that may inhibit your ability to meet your own expectations of yourself during this unique time in your life. Together we will work to identify and overcome the obstacles that have interfered with your ability to resolve distressing issues. Together we will calm your anxious mind, alleviate symptoms of depression, increase self-awareness, identify strengths and empower you to move your life in a more positive direction.

Hi! I have over 15 years of practice providing therapeutic and habilitative supports to people with different needs and have had the honor of providing psychotherapy to children, adults and families over the last 8 years. I came to the mental health field through my work with people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD). I found that people can thrive when linked with the right supports, including service professionals who are dedicated, caring, empathic and invested. I find joy in supporting a person to find out what's getting them "stuck" and learning how to get un-stuck. This includes exploring ways to connect with other people in their lives, finding ways to increase self-compassion and engage in active problem solving, by finding creative and interesting solutions. This includes helping people try new things, while acknowledging that failure can happen (and often does!) that serves as an opportunity for continued growth and is part of the learning process.

Hi, I'm Kayla! My goal as a therapist is to guide my clients to learn various coping strategies to help them help themselves. I assist clients with building their toolkit to give them the necessary skills to help them better manage stress. I have experience helping children, teens and families through all different stages of life. As a part of the Insightful Paths Team, I am fully licensed in New York and able to serve any areas of NY by offering tele-health sessions. My approach to therapy is built around what works best for the client. I've worked with various ages in one-on-one or family sessions with focuses ranging from depression, anxiety, autism, ADHD, RAD (reactive attachment disorder), and ODD (oppositional defiant disorder). The therapeutic interventions I use are rooted in CBT (cognitive behavioral therapy), DBT (dialectical behavior therapy), and art therapy. While some clients prefer art/games, others may prefer strictly talk-based interventions; while others may prefer a combination. I look forward to working together so we can reach your individual or family goals!

My goal is to help you figure out what you want from life and to provide a safe space that will enable you to work towards your goals, whatever they may be. I became a mental health counselor because I believe everyone has the capacity to grow and become more fully the person they were meant to be. My passion is walking that journey with others, being a listening and supportive presence as you strive to do that. I look forward to sharing that journey of discovery with you during our time together. My hours are normally Monday through Thursday from 10 am to 5 pm, but I am open to working with you to find a time that works best for you.

Thoughts and emotions can be so powerful, but they can lead us to feeling stuck, lost, confused, dread, or even exhausted. We become so worked up that we might not know how to manage. We tend to isolate, panic, feel unseen, feel unheard, and become irritated because we don’t have the words. Clients will get to meet their present selves by exploring multiple aspects of their lives such as relationships with others and themselves, inner dialogue, communication, anxiety, depression, and more.As a therapist, I aim to create a space where clients have the opportunity to be vulnerable, grow, and feel empowered while working toward their goals and developing new skill sets. I offer a compassionate, creative, and individualized approach that is collaborative and non-judgmental. Together we will develop a deeper understanding of emotions, somatic symptoms, inner dialogue, boundaries, and how we view ourselves in order to improve our quality of life.

Feeling overwhelmed, stuck, or like you should be doing better in college? Maybe you overthink everything, procrastinate even when you know what needs to get done, or find yourself doing things you know aren't helping, even when part of you wants to stop. I work with college students across New York State who are struggling with perfectionism, academic stress, anxiety, OCD, or eating and body image concerns. Therapy with me is warm, collaborative, and practical. You will have space to feel understood while also learning strategies to reach your goals. That might mean changing patterns, facing things you've been avoiding, or learning to see difficult thoughts and emotions differently. As a Level 3 certified TEAM CBT therapist, I look for clients who are willing to take steps toward change, even when motivation naturally ebbs and flows. Together, we can make room for the change you've been wanting. You do not need to have it all figured out to get started. Reach out today for a free 15 minute consultation.

My clients say that they find my honest, warm, and straightforward approach to be refreshing and helpful. Whether you're dealing with relationship issues, school stress, or a sense of being stuck, these obstacles can trigger anxiety, depression, and other mental health concerns. The fear of judgment or the dread of something terrible happening can weigh heavily on your mind. High standards, whether self-imposed or external, might feel impossible to meet, leaving you feeling overwhelmed. You don't have to face these challenges alone. Together, we can develop effective strategies to help you embrace life fully, fostering a sense of control and freedom. I specialize in supporting adults and teens, particularly those who identify as LGBTQIA+ or performing artists, who are feeling anxious, sad, and overwhelmed. My approach helps manage anxiety, depression, ADHD, insomnia, and OCD, offering thoughtful conversations and practical tools to get you back to living fully. Finding the right therapist can be daunting, but I'm here to make the process easier. Call me Michael, not "Doctor Jacobs." I consider my approach to be direct, warm and less formal. I want you to know that I'm human too, and we're in this together. Reach out today to see if we're a good fit and take the first step towards getting better.
