At Generations Life Care we are clinical social workers who support clients as they find their own paths and grow into more authentic lives. Edythe Shapiro, LCSW, has been a social worker for 30+ years. She enjoys working with people as they undergo life transitions and embark on new goals. Her specialties include depression and substance abuse treatment. Erin King, LCSW, specializes in treatment that uses evidence-based practices. She works with traumatized individuals to process what happened and move beyond it to live more integrated, less painful lives. She also specializes with the LGBTQ+ population, though she also works with cisgender and straight individuals. Kate Trabalka, MSW, LSW, specializes in helping people with life transitions, grief, and loss. Using a holistic, strengths-based approach, she works collaboratively to focus on clients’ individual needs. Please feel free to contact us at eking@generationslifecare.com or 610-558-9600 x4.
I offer LGBTQIA+ affirming care for adults and young adults in New York and across over 40 states through PsyPact, with virtual therapy tailored to each client's unique needs. My practice is especially supportive of undergraduate/graduate students, healthcare professionals, and those managing anxiety/mood concerns, identity development, or academic/professional stress. I have also received advanced training in postpartum mood/anxiety disorders through Postpartum Support International, which allows me to help new parents dealing with perinatal concerns. I use evidence-based approaches like Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and relational psychotherapy, and provide documentation for out-of-network insurance reimbursement and sliding scale rates when needed.

Need support through life’s challenges? I will help you work through a range of issues, whether that’s depression, anxiety, or any other life transition issue. In each step of your journey, I will encourage self-empowerment and positive growth. I will also work with you to identify the areas of your life that may no longer serve you. I use an integrated psychotherapy method grounded in existential, phenomenological, interpersonal, and gestalt approaches. What this means is that I will tailor your treatment to incorporate your worldview, values, and creativity, rather than applying a one-size-fits-all model. I also incorporate Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) to ensure that we manage acute suffering along the way. If you’ve ever felt different or marginalized, I am committed to providing you a space that is welcoming and inclusive. I am accepting new clients and can work with you either in-person or virtually. I look forward to hearing from you!

Open Space Counseling, Consulting & Wellness was founded in 2018 to create a safe, inclusive, and progressive space where people can move from merely surviving their lives to truly thriving. Our vision is to create a warm space that is inviting anyone who feels “other” or believes that their “stuff” will be judged—for both our clients and our employees. This includes concerns related to addiction, trauma, and LGBTQIA+, among many other things. We strive to create a laid-back, family-like atmosphere among our staff, and we believe that happy employees play a large role in ensuring that we have happy clients. Open Space CCW is a LGBTQIA+ affirming, relationship minority affirming, and racial justice-oriented therapy group.

I've dedicated my life to understanding and caring for the mind. Childhood curiosity drew me to study at Cornell University, which ranged from the philosophy of mind to the neurobiology of behavior. After studying neuroscience at the University of Pennsylvania, I attended medical school. Here, I fell in love with psychiatry because I was fascinated with patients' stories and their unique ways of enduring them. I sought my graduate medical education at the Western Psychiatric Hospital of UPMC, one of the nation's largest and most renowned university-affiliated psychiatric hospitals. I specialize in integrating evidence-based (e.g., medication) and patient-centered (e.g., hypnosis) therapies. My prescribing is evidence-based and enhanced by patient-centered problem-solving that utilizes your existing attributes while evoking natural learning and adaptation processes. I consider a person's symptoms in the context of understanding them as individuals, considering their development, personality, and life narrative.

In other words, I have many ways for helping individuals to deal with their struggles or with whatever is challenging them. My approach focuses on thought processes, behaviors, and action plans. I also find ways to creatively use your interests (such as: music, hobbies, movies, and etc.) in the solution process. Most importantly, during every counseling session I strive for my clients to take away something new or something that can utilize outside of counseling in everyday life.
