Stone Harbor Therapy
Finding Your Way in a Time of So Much Change College and young adulthood can be exciting, but they can also feel surprisingly overwhelming. You may be figuring out who you are apart from your family, navigating friendships or relationships, worrying about your future, managing academic pressure, or simply wondering why everyone else seems to have things figured out when you don’t. Sometimes it’s anxiety that won’t quiet down. Sometimes it’s loneliness, self-doubt, a difficult relationship, family expectations, or the feeling that you should be happier than you are. And sometimes you just need a place where you don’t have to have the right answer. I’ve worked with women and young adults for more than three decades, and I understand that this stage of life is about much more than getting through college. It’s about becoming your own person. Therapy with me is warm, collaborative, and practical. We can make room for what’s difficult while also helping you understand yourself better, trust your own voice, build healthier relationships, and feel more confident about the life you’re creating.

KATHLEEN MCGAH
Hello, and welcome. My name is Kathleen McGah and I offer a comfortable, confidential space for teens, college-age students and young adults to talk about whatever is on their mind, at one's own pace, and without judgment. When people have a safe place to practice putting thoughts and feelings into words, they find they grow psychologically stronger over time - and more satisfied with various aspects of life. I have worked with many students who, initially, have been hesitant to talk with a professional. (Even if one has had a counseling experience in the past, it can still be difficult to start with a new therapist.) It makes sense if you have some hesitation about taking this step. Only you will know if you are ready. If you have been struggling and think it would be good to meet with a therapist, though, please reach out.

My approach is one of empathy and compassion where I will hold space for all of your emotions while you navigate through difficult life events. My counseling style is warm, nurturing, and person-centered and I use interventions from Acceptance and Commitment Therapy - helping you work toward acceptance and awareness of the full range of your emotions, thoughts, and sensations in order to better understand yourself. Some of the specific issues I address include eating disorders, self-image, body-image dissatisfaction, life transitions, and anxiety/depression. I have experience working with those in recovery from eating disorders, with a focus on binge-eating and emotional eating, and body-image issues. I believe that through a deeper understanding of ourselves, we can begin to make decisions with clarity. During our work together, we will work on developing a better understanding of your values, in order to live a life with more purpose and meaning.
Bright View Couneling
Bright View Counseling was founded in 2020 by Michael Clark-Borenstein LCMHC (Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor) with the mission of bringing a better counseling experience to the people of Charlotte, North Carolina. After struggling through the challenges we all faced in 2020 and continue to face in 2021 due to the global pandemic, therapy and counseling have become something we could all benefit from having more of. If you or your child have been struggling with anxiety, depression, ADHD, work or life-related stress, behavioral changes, or simply struggling to adjust to the big changes we all faced this past year, you are not alone. We’re breaking the traditional mold of talk therapy and counseling and bringing a new, brighter idea of what therapy could and should look like with our ‘Therapy With A Twist!’ approach. Our therapy approach is holistic, humanistic, and person-focused. We bring the power of the natural world into the therapeutic process. We take walks outside, participate in outdoor activities with clients, and integrate activities and games. We also get a helping paw from our office dog, Charlotte, who comes into sessions to provide a furry friend to hug, pet, and receive emotional support from. We’ve adopted all of these practices to continue to work with teletherapy as well. We take virtual walks, have outdoor virtual sessions, and have even participated in virtual fishing! Our outlook on the client-therapist relationship differs from other counseling services. At Bright View Counseling, we forge a trusting relationship with clients. Therapy can be an intimidating process for new clients. We strive to create a casual, comfortable environment where our clients can feel safe and free to express themselves honestly and openly without fear of judgment.

Life in your teen and early adult years is overwhelming. Figuring out who you are, fielding all the expectations, managing unknowns about the future, and putting yourself out there socially are all demanding your time and energy. It's a lot. Maybe you’re about to give up, feeling ready to stop being disappointed in yourself, or feeling that this is just how life is, and you need to cope however you can. You've done all the things you thought you were supposed to, and it doesn’t seem like it’s enough. You don’t have to keep pushing through. A meaningful, joyful life is possible for you, too. I work with teens, young adults, and their families to address the “never enough,” “what’s wrong with me,” or “why did this happen to me?” In our work, we will slow down and process the beliefs and patterns that no longer serve you while learning behaviors that support the person you are becoming. My approach is warm and compassionate, yet direct. Teen years and young adulthood are hard enough; you don't have to figure it out on your own. Together, we will work through the self-doubt, feelings of hopelessness, and the sense of isolation so that you can be your unique self—truly seen and valued. Strong and confident.

At times, life can feel like trying to steer a parked car - you’re hoping to move, but the wheels won’t turn. Therapy, for many, becomes a place to begin moving again. Starting on unmarked and unfamiliar terrain can be daunting. With this in mind, I am passionate about providing an open and secure environment that allows you to express yourself authentically and regain momentum. As you steer your car, I partner alongside you with creativity and compassion. At times, life can feel like trying to steer a parked car - you’re hoping to move, but the wheels won’t turn. Maybe you're here because your intuition knows it is time for a change. Perhaps you are carrying untold stories that need a witness, or are ready to shed an old belief or way of being. Before becoming a counselor, my background was in creative writing and organic farming. This has shown me the value of a nontraditional path and the belief that nothing in a living system heals in isolation. In our sessions together, we will listen for the deeper patterns beneath your "presenting problems" and collaborate to craft an honest and compassionate map of your inner landscape. I work with adults across the lifespan and have particular experience with young adult clients. We will not prioritize words alone. The body, imagination, and felt sense are all part of how we will explore your identity and experiences. Whether you are navigating persistent anxiety, questioning your identity or life direction, working through relationship stress, or processing past trauma, I provide a grounded, collaborative space where you don't have to carry it all alone.
