Therapists for college students near New York, NY
Do you feel like you're taking care of everyone else in your life? Maybe it's time to work with someone who can hold space for you. Therapy is most effective when clients feel safe and seen. Because of this, I aim to create an accepting, non-judgmental, and inclusive space for you to be your true self. I work with a range of clients who feel stuck, lost, unmotivated, or anxious, and I specialize in helping clients navigate major life changes (including quarter-life crises), work through imposter syndrome, and engage in self-exploration. As a former educator, college counselor, and therapist in a college wellness center, I am well-versed in how challenging the transition to college can be. Whether you are working towards your bachelor's, master's, or doctoral degree, managing competing priorities can be challenging and incredibly stressful. My aim is to help you start feeling more like yourself.

My practice focuses on helping people who want to get to know themselves better and change repetitive life patterns to improve their personal and academic lives. Many of the students, faculty, and administrators I work with have had anxiety, ADHD, or a history of trauma or loss that they need help working through in order to achieve at their optimal level and enjoy life more. I try to create a peaceful office environment in which to explore yourself and learn techniques for managing life better, inside and out. I believe the therapy relationship itself is important to experience so that you can connect with yourself in a different way. Growth comes from curiosity and freedom to express yourself in an empathetic, engaging, and knowledgeable setting. I invite you to visit my website for more detailed information.
Hi, I’m Helena Chang, a second-year clinical master’s student of social work. My approach is all about understanding the “why” behind the challenges you’re facing. By exploring your environment, past experiences, and childhood, we’ll uncover patterns and gain insight into what’s shaping your thoughts and emotions. This self-awareness becomes the foundation for meaningful growth and change. Once we’ve built that understanding, we’ll work together to develop tools and skills that feel practical and empowering for you. I like to mix in strategies from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) to make sure we’re not just reflecting, but also taking action to help you feel more confident and in control. My goal is to create a space where you feel comfortable, supported, and understood. We’ll work as a team to help you grow, heal, and move toward the life you want. Helena Chang is a therapist-in-training at Sol Health. Sol Health is a digital health startup that offers $30 therapy to Gen Zs by connecting them with therapists-in-training accruing clinical hours.

TriBeCa Therapy is a center for psychotherapy that was founded on the assumption that human beings are original, imaginative, inspired, and inventive. We particularly love our work with young adults and college students and are connected to issues they deal with. Issues related to sex and dating, drugs and drinking, depression and anxiety and academic pressures aren’t topics that will freak us out. We can handle it. College students frequently discuss with us challenges such as: making friends in ways that don’t involve alcohol, making friends as a person of color, navigating social situations that demand connecting with strangers (like in the cafeteria) and finding “their people.” We work to create a partnership that takes these challenges on together, trying new strategies, taking increasingly bigger risks and dealing with the disappointments and celebrating the successes that follow. College is a time when many young adults are dealing with very adults issues like sex, sexual assault, eating disorders, substance abuse, managing money, race, class, and career choices. Creating a space where young adults feel comfortable talking about these issues is a strength of our therapists and a non-judgmental stance is key. The object isn’t to insist on a particular set of values or practices, but to support young people to understand what they are dealing with and to make active choices about who they want to be. I believe that each of our stories are equally sacred as they are unique and see therapy as an opportunity to cultivate curiosity for ourselves, let go of self-judgement, and create meaningful change. I utilize an embodied approach rooted in Gestalt Therapy and don't shy away from bringing humor, play and creativity to the therapeutic process. Though my experience ranges across many areas, I gravitate towards helping clients work through Inner Child Healing, codependency, perfectionism, relational trauma, multicultural identity and relationship issues. I also work with couples seeking to deepen intimacy, trust and communication.

Are you feeling overwhelmed? Worried? Do you struggle with transition and change? Are you wondering how to silence that voice in your head asking “Am I even worth it?” and build confidence and self-trust? If these experiences and questions sound familiar to you I encourage you to reach out and we can begin to work through them. Life can often feel overwhelming and reaching out for support and prioritizing self-care can feel difficult. I am here to provide you with kindness, compassion, and help you believe that you are worth it. I work with young adults to help them understand the connection between thoughts, emotions, and behavior and how to transform harmful thought and behavior patterns. Together, we can build up your skills in navigating life transitions, managing mental health symptoms, reducing distress, exploring relationship problems, and developing long-term coping strategies through shared empathy and good humor as fellow humans. I am honored to work with you as my client.
Life is wonderful and really hard at the same time. Sometimes, our struggles take over and interfere with our ability to appreciate the things we love and care about. When this happens, it can turn into developing unhealthy ways of coping and a cycle of suffering. My goal is to help you learn how to reduce suffering and to develop healthier ways of coping. My approach is behavioral; we will work together towards specific goals in a proactive manner. Clients describe me as gentle, humorous, understanding, and change-oriented. I have extensive experience treating eating disorders and anxiety disorders. I practice using an evidence-based treatment model called Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) model, which utilizes mindfulness, cognitive interventions, exposure techniques, and movement towards goals and values. I can also help you if you are struggling with life transitions, relationship problems, or a sense of feeling stuck in your life. I firmly believe that most people would benefit from therapy.

You might look like you have things together on the outside—but internally, you’re dealing with anxiety, overthinking, and feeling like everyone else has it figured out except you. Sound familiar? College can be a time of growth and excitement, but I know it can also feel overwhelming and isolating, too. I work with college students who are dealing with anxiety, stress, relationship drama, and that constant “what am I doing with my life?” feeling. I’m not a “sit in silence” therapist; I take an active and collaborative approach, which means I’ll ask questions, give feedback, and help you actually make sense of what’s going on (and what to do about it). I'll give you practical tools you can actually use in your day-to-day life, and together we’ll work on building confidence and setting boundaries so you can work towards feeling more like yourself and less "stuck" in patterns that aren't serving you. If you’re ready for therapy that feels real, supportive, and actually helpful, let’s connect.
