Therapists for college students near New York, NY
Adulting is hard! The decisions you face about school, work and relationships can be confusing. You may be struggling with alcohol or other substance use. With compassion and without judgment, I'll help you figure out if it's causing a problem for you. During my years as a therapist, I've helped people with mental and emotional health problems, such as depression, anxiety, trauma and family issues. I really enjoy working with young adults and helping them answer questions about who they are, what they want to do and where they want to go in life. I'll help you navigate life transitions and work with you on your discovery to create your best self.
Life often comes at you from many angles, and sometimes the weight of change, anxiety, or difficult memories can make it hard to feel like yourself. With more than six years of experience as a licensed mental health counselor, my work is built around helping adolescents and adults navigate life's transitions, work through relationship issues, find balance, and reconnect with who they know themselves to be. Specializing in life adjustments that have often been created from feelings of anxiety and even potential traumatic experiences/memories, I understand how deeply personal and layered these experiences can be. Whether you're processing a major shift or working through something that has lingered for years, you deserve care that meets you where you are. My commitment to you goes beyond the session: I am dedicated to consistently evolving and growing with you each step of the way, while also focusing on continuing education to recognize and treat the various personal and life stressors taking place in the world around us. In our work together, the focus is entirely on you, because what you're experiencing, and related symptoms, deserve to be treated. Using evidence-based modalities, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), motivational interviewing, and psychodynamic therapy, we'll move toward self-healing in a way that feels grounded and sustainable. Support, motivation, and accountability are at the heart of how I practice. You can also expect therapeutic homework from time to time, with real-world opportunities to practice the skills we explore in session. Bringing those tools into your daily life is, I believe, one of the most powerful ways to set the tone and get us back to where we want to be. My path to becoming a therapist, much like life itself, has not always been linear and clear. Growing up in a divorced household, change and adjustment were constants. It was through my own experience in therapy that I discovered something remarkable: healing is genuinely possible, and with the right support, so is transformation. That discovery became the foundation of my practice. What was given to me through that work is exactly what I want to offer you. Change is achievable, on any level, and you don't have to find your way there alone. When I'm not in session, you'll likely find me cheering on a favorite team, getting lost in a psychological thriller, or spending time with family.

More beneficial than any technique offered during treatment is finding the right person to work with. You will find me to be insightful, genuine and completely with you while in session. I work to create a calm, safe, trusting environment so that true growth can occur. I focus not only on alleviating symptoms, but strive to find the core issue(s) causing the symptoms so that growth is lasting. I recognize each person and situation is unique and tailor therapy accordingly. My background encompasses more than academic and office-based therapy. For over 20 years I have worked with people from varying backgrounds in schools, camps, businesses and the medical field. This experience has allowed me to develop a unique and effective form of therapy my clients can understand and apply in their every day lives.
I am trained in EMDR and attend monthly consultation with a certified EMDR consultant. Many people come to me with knowledge or curiosity of stored trauma in the body and its effects. This can look like persistent anxiety, "unexplained" health challenges like autoimmune disease, pelvic pain, abdominal pain and more. Additionally, clients will come to me and say that despite years of talk therapy they still feel stuck and want to explore how EMDR may be helpful for them. EMDR is an 8 phase process that doesn't have a specific timeline; it is catered to your needs and goals and progress is closely monitored throughout.

My patients, colleagues, supervisors and clients have come from nearly every country, represent every socio-economic class, and every aspect of the rainbow in terms of gender identity and sexuality, and have ranged in age from 5 years old to almost 80 years old! Do You Struggle With The 3 P’s? * Pressure * Procrastination * Perfectionism Are you trapped in negative thought-spirals? Improving your well-being starts with how you speak to yourself, and shifting your thinking toward supportive thoughts. Therapy is a process of breaking those patterns. It's also a exploratory process of exploration. It can be short-term or long-term. Often times the initial presenting problem is connected to underlying and enduring deeper themes. We can also be playful and tap into creativity in session. Patients who enjoy music, pop culture, and other creative modalities tell me they appreciate their use as a tool in treatment. People also like learning about the mind in general and theirs in particular. **None of us changes hearing something just once or saying something just once. It takes some repetition to identify, understand, acknowledge, and release.** In-person sessions available in Uptown/Carrollton New Orleans. Remote sessions available for Louisiana and New York Residents,
