I have always enjoyed connecting with people and learning about their experiences. I knew I wanted to go into the field when I was a senior in high school. From that point on, my education and training have centered on being the best therapist I can be. I have worked in hospitals, schools, and mental health agencies to gain a variety of experiences and expertise. From working in different settings, I knew I had a natural inclination to help my clients feel at ease and make therapy not only helpful but enjoyable.Since I have experienced therapy, I know what it is like to be on the other side. I appreciate a nonjudgmental approach with kindness and humor sprinkled in at the appropriate times. I believe therapy does not have to be serious all the time. Growth comes from support, understanding, and compassion.

Feeling lost and overwhelmed? Unsure how to get unstuck and move forward? Join me for a session so we could have an open conversation to help you unload your stress, process your distress, explore the unconscious mind, increase your self-awareness, and make life-changing decisions together, as a team. While I mostly utilize person-centered and psychodynamic interventions, I also implement use of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy,mindfulness-based interventions, Motivational Interviewing, and solution-focused interventions. In addition, I have received training in both psychoanalysis and Eye-Movement Desensitization Reprocessing. During 9+ years of training and working as a therapist, I have developed a way of working that is both empathic and supportive. If you are eager to seek ways to change your life, please do not hesitate to contact me via email or call me to schedule for a visit.

You're feeling overwhelmed, and the constant worry and overthinking start to pile up. School already has enough challenges, and now life stuff and Covid is thrown in the mix. Anxiety sucks! It is paralyzing, and you feel stuck under all the pressure to make the right decisions, get all that work done, and keep it together. You may ask yourself, Why am I like this? Why can't I start that paper/project? I can't ever relax!" Maybe you find yourself a sensitive person, or you can't say no. Feelings of shame creep in, and it is a neverending cycle of feeling shut down while trying to navigate life transitions. Our clients are like you. Imagine being able to start that paper or make decisions without spiraling. Or going into a social situation with confidence. Better yet, not feeling alone in a room full of people. We understand how anxiety works and learned the skills to manage it not only for ourselves but to help others like you break the cycle of suffering. We focus on providing a safe space to be yourself as you process and learn skills to take control of your life.

Reaching out for support takes courage. I’m glad you’re here, and you don’t have to navigate this journey alone. We’ll create a space that feels grounded and genuine. My goal is for you to feel seen, heard, and a bit more hopeful about the path ahead. Hi! I’m Mattie. I earned my master’s degree in clinical counseling and psychology from Eastern University in 2018. I am skilled in treating trauma, substance use disorder, grief and loss, personality, and mood disorders. I use evidence-based practices like CBT and DBT. As a licensed counselor, I am dedicated to personalized care and helping clients improve their quality of life. I see therapy as a space where you can exhale—a place to be real without judgment. My goal is to understand your story and help you build tools that fit your life. Using CBT and DBT, we’ll work together to find healing, balance, and connection. In our first session, you can expect a calm, supportive space to simply be yourself. We’ll talk about what brings you here and what you hope to gain, moving at a pace that feels right for you.

Alongside my clinical work, I am also a doctoral student in the Counselor Education and Supervision program at Pennsylvania State University where I am pursuing research interests of social justice and systemic change in counseling and religious/spiritual abuse. Through teaching, research, and practice, I value providing therapy that is affirming, trauma-informed, and responsive to each client’s unique culture, context, and experiences. Many of the students I work with are used to functioning well despite feeling anxious, depressed, overwhelmed, or emotionally worn down. Some are struggling with trauma, difficult family relationships, or recurring patterns in their relationships that they don't fully understand. Others are trying to manage ADHD while balancing school, work, research, or family responsibilities. I'm also interested in working with students who are trying to make sense of themselves in the context of the world around them. That might include questions about identity, culture, community, or the emotional impact of social and political events. If you're someone who feels deeply affected by what's happening around you, therapy can be a place to think through those experiences rather than carrying them by yourself. My approach is collaborative and guided by curiosity. I don't assume there are quick answers or a single right way to do therapy. Sometimes our work is about understanding the patterns that keep repeating in your life. Other times it's about dealing with whatever is most pressing right now. Most of the time, it's both.
